MM comes off pretty mild-mannered. I sure hope he lit up the locker room later for that uninspired effort.
Did I miss where NIU is Duke?
And your point is?
They won. They shot almost 50% as a team. They outrebounded the opposition by 20. All that despite Threloff only playing 15 minutes because of foul trouble.
NIU isn't at the point where they need to be apologizing for victories.
Threloff should have dominated this game with his size and strength. He was much bigger than anyone guarding him but he seemed to lack energy and passed the ball away rather than attack the basket. Fouls were not a problem until fairly late in the game. Maybe he was under the weather.

Perhaps now they could practice layups, short-range shots, and maybe even dunks. We'll worry about treys later.

Yeah, the number of missed layups was mind boggling.

Oh, and not to make too much of last nights game, but....
Again, we did not handle the press well. When we're pressed all the guys on the floor get the "deer in headlights" look and no one seems to want the ball. A few TO's were from the press.
So be lookin' for that from our opponents when we begin conference play.

Granted, I was only half watching (the Hawks were on), but the fact he only played 15 minutes would lead me to believe fouls were an issue all game.

I saw him sitting on the bench and looked to see if he had foul trouble, and he only had 1, and I thought late in the first half (at earliest) he only had 2 fouls. It had to be something else.

He was in the doghouse due to turnovers and whatever else. He did not start the second half.

NIU shot 49% and still had to sweat because of the turnovers. Man.
Wasn't really the guards tonight. Threloff (In 15 minutes), Bowie, and Rakocevic had 10 of the 18 turnovers.
I was speaking more generally, not specific to last night.

They had a bad night. The problem with the team is the coach cannot be the guy with the most passion. Maybe, Monty is not the guy to bring it out of them. There is enough talent but there is a huge lack of passion and urgency, for the game. We are in trouble unless some one steps up. I feel Monty is a good coach and recruiter but not sure of his motivating skills. He definitely has the answers but can he motivate people?
Regression to the mean...
They went from 21st in FT % to 110th. In one game.
It's very early in the season. Jumps like this aren't crazy.

110th still isn't terrible. That's the top third of college basketball.

First possession of the game we were 1 for 5 from the field with at least 3 being an easy tip or layup.

If turnovers land someone in the doghouse, we need one with multiple rooms.

The team will have its ups and downs. Luckily we played a bad team on a down game. ND, however, will not be pretty.

We're going to need a bigger doghouse.
