Does anyone know if the UAB Football Foundation is continuing?
Are they continuing to raise funds or have they suspended operations? What if over the next year they could obtain the $50M in commitments that was used to justify the shutdown of the program? I haven't heard anything else about any behind the scenes activities. It would be nice to have a fund established where people could proactively purchase season tickets for several years out and continue to contribute towards future football facilities.

The shutdown wasn't about money. It wouldn't matter if they had 250m in commitments. That was not why football was shutdown. Actually, showing that you have that kind of support only provides them with more incentive for not bringing football back. They don't want a successful football program at UAB.

To answer the original question, yes, the UAB Football Foundation is continuing, and yes, I believe the plan is to raise a sizable amount of money to help get football reinstated, despite the questionable accounting that led to that $49 million football expense figure.

I'll be making regular contributions beginning Monday. Glad to see this become a reality, it's worth trying.

I urge all Blazer Boosters to withdraw their donations to UAB and instead give it to the Football Foundation. That's what I plan on doing...

So to hell with all the other athletic programs? What did those athletes do to deserve this?

I urge everyone to support UAB. UAB is more than just football. Don't give Watts the ammo he needs to destroy the rest of UAB athletics. Watts is not UAB. UAB is the victim here.

Give to UAB Athletics. Let the Fund for UAB barrel collect empty coke cans tossed in as people walk by.

And MB, given the way you're playing Donation Nazi, I hope you give a ton of money to the program. People are very disillusioned and pissed off, and one of the few options that we have for making our feelings known in a substantive way is to withhold our money. I absolutely agree with you about supporting the other programs, and I have and will, but you have beaten this to death. I hope your money is where your mouth is.

If we can get rid of Watts our foundation will work with new president to benefit all sports. I am withdrawing support from UAB athletic dept until Watts is gone. Would be so energized to be involved again. Will only buy game day tix if inclined to attend.

And I will continue to beat it to death. Not supporting UAB athletics is what will kill UAB athletics. It won't be the loss of football, it will be the lack of support. I am pissed off too. I am pissed that football is gone, but I am also pissed that people can't see who the enemy is. UAB is not the enemy. And I really don't care how tired people are of hearing this

I will give to UAB Athletics and the Undergraduate needs only. I can't see donating to the Campaign for BOT Sellout Ray! Can't do it! He could say it'd be used for this or that, but like a marriage, if you ain't got trust, you got nothing!

His ass needs to go!

I don't think I want to be an investor into a program that lacks vision. Which conference?
Can we trust any statement about athletics coming from Watts mouth?
Not saying I will abandon my Blazers, just will buy game day tix. I'm sure if we end up in a lesser conference I will have plenty of tickets to choose from. My enthusiasm is at an all time low. Not sure I will wear any green until his butt is gone.

That's what I've done as of last week...I mailed my Gold Card back to them along with a request in writing to terminate my membership with Blazer Boosters immediately.

It is quite evident that Watts was in favor of axing Football, in a timely manner(as soon as possible), before he was even hired. It was a prerequisite in his job interview. He was in agreement. Otherwise he wouldn't have been hired in the first place. It was all premeditated(thought out beforehand).

You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.

Of course, "You don't know what you don't know...what happens behind closed doors."

Only thing that wasn't thought out was the aftermath, the collateral damage to the other programs, athletic and non-athletic, but in all honesty, I don't think anyone involved with this assassination cared one way or the other, this is how some people with power misuse it and get their jollies in the process.

It's only temporary. All UAB athletes will be better off when football is back.

Please do tell, what did the golden girls, cheerleaders, rifle team, bowling team, marching band members, and 100+ football players, did to deserve this ?
