Good luck to him and them should be interesting how he handles their D.
Edit: don't suppose they would like to schedule a game with Georgia Southern anytime soon???

RE: Official per ESPN: Muschamp to Auburn
Article already up...for myself...interesting especially since Louisville opener in 2015 is against Auburn in Atlanta in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic:
Former Florida coach Will Muschamp has agreed to become Auburn's defensive coordinator, sources close to the situation told ESPN on Friday night.
Defense was never Will Muschamp's issue. Under Muschamp from 2011-14, Florida was one of the nation's top defensive teams
Muschamp, who had a 28-21 record in four seasons with Florida, chose the Auburn position after interviewing for Houston's head coaching position. He was also courted for defensive coordinator jobs at South Carolina and Texas A&M.

Houston already has a hell of a DC in Gibbs... Muschamp is a good defensive coordinator himself, but not what Houston needs are at this point... I'm pretty sure Herman the outstanding offensive coordinator that he is may very well be our guy now.

We didn't need Muschamp, and glad we didn't get him, but we got some good PR from interviewing him. So did he win/win.

Well, I can tell you that the only ones that like this move in SEC country are Auburn fans. Even Florida fans know that Muschamp knows defense. With Malzahn controlling the offense, Auburn is going to be scary on both sides of the ball next season. Maybe Muschamp will get another head coaching opportunity somewhere before spring practice starts.

How? A loser that couldn't win at Florida with 5 star recruits gave Houston leverage?

Gibbs is gone. After researching him, I hope he finds a nice landing spot.
Who will UH land?

Chad Morris or Phillip Montgomery should have waited about 2 weeks...myself suggest hire Ohio State OC Tom Herman...

Salary $1.6 million. That's more than Notre Dame is paying Brian Kelly and $600K more than the Houston coach whose job he just interviewed for. Not a bad gig.

How is this a win-win? Houston invited him for an interview and didn't hire him. There was clearly some level of mutual interest or he wouldn't have flown in for an interview. So either Houston rejected him (loss for Muschamp) or he rejected Houston (loss for Houston).
If he rejected Houston, that means he chose a coordinator role over being head coach at Houston. That's as embarrassing as when Cincinnati's head coach in 1993 had an 8-3 season (our most successful in 15 years) and left to become head coach at Harvard.

Not that embarrassing. He's still at Harvard.

He's a helluva coach too. He's had 3 undefeated seasons and he's won 82% of his games since the turn of the millennium. I guess Harvard was a destination job for him since he clearly has other options.
But at the time it was pretty embarrassing. Hey look, a guy leveraged a successful season at UC into a D1-AA head coaching gig.

Take notice everyone else. This is why the SEC is so damn dominant. It isn't necessarily just about Head Coaches pay but when you are willing to pay that next level of coaches on your team this kind of money?
Some big schools are going to have to start forking out that money.

Plus as a DC he doesn't have to deal with *$&% from the media after every loss. A lot less responsibility than a head coach.

Indiana
Oregon St
UNC
California
Iowa State
Illinois
Purdue
NC State
Kansas
Colorado
These ten schools have two things in common.
1. Their total budget for coaches' salaries (including their HC) is less than Alabama, Auburn and LSU pay just their assistants.
2. They all stink in football.
Coincidence? I think not.

Jobs at Harvard, Yale, Navy, AF, Army or any school in Miami aren't a step down.
