Stadium naming rights...reality check
I was watching the Boise St. game last night and noticed that Bronco stadium was called Albertson stadium. And asked myself when did that change.

I googled for an article and it started this year. Boise got 12.5 million for 15 years. Which is an underwhelming number. I read further into the article and it saI'd that Learfield sports takes 25 percent of that because they own the marketing rights.

Doesn't look too good for NIU to receive more than that and Learfield sports taking a quarter of it.

On the bright side, NIU has more major companies to implore for the money than Albertsons.

RE: Stadium naming rights...reality check
We have the naming rights to the Convocation Center in addition to the rights of Huskie stadium. The namings right game could include everything from club boxes to gate entrances and beyond. Between Frazier and Learfield, they will milk this like crazy. I am sure they will play multiple corporations against each other. { at least I hope so!!}

We would get less than Boise did, for sure.

Not necessarily. The companies will want to know how many eyes will be on it in terms of attendence and tv ratings. We would have more regional coverage with a higher population center, plus our national broadcasts since boise is only on the mw tv package not espn. They would have us on the attendende tho.

If we do get some money for stadium naming rights I hope that there is a clause that the terms will be renegotiated if we are invited to another conference.

I do not think we will get less. You are talking Idaho vrs. the greater Chicagoland area. I think Frazier will go for a bigger number and maybe 20 years. A nice victory over Marshall would be good timing!

Let's start a kickstarter and get it named "NIU Dog Pound Stadium"....."NIU Dog Pound Court"....."NIU Dog Pound Center"....these are all terrible and hilarious names. I'm in.

Judging what other schools have gotten, if NIU nets more than 500k/year Frazier will have done very well.

You have to pick the company well. The FAU stadium, where we'll be playing, was named after a controversial private prison company, which ended up withdrawing.

Akron got $500k/yr for the stadium, $250k/yr for the field, $20k/yr for the press box, and an unspecified amount for the club level seating. There's no reason we shouldn't get $1MM/yr if you include naming rights for the convo.

I would hope so, but Akron does a good job fundraising for sports.

InfoCision is super nice and they have good facilities. Also, Akron (the city) does have a few nice large companies with big ties.

And the expectation should be that NIU can do as good of a job fundraising for sports...especially football. Akron is definitely a much bigger market and there are actual businesses based near the university. NIU's best opportunity may be tapping into organizations based in the western suburbs. It would have been great if Cadence Health had merged with Kishwaukee and Rockford...would have been a perfect footprint and a very large organization.

I'm watching a little FCS football and see that North Dakota State's dome has "GATE CITY BANK" written very large on their 50 yard line.
