I would add who is on the list for AD as well...?? These two choices could make or break the Pitt program!!!

I for one am hoping for the "Home Run" hires!! You just got to open the wallet a tad.

There was a report on football scoop that Chancellor Gallagher wants to "go big." I don't know what go big means to him.

There really hasn't been any info leaked.

The candidates we think are in play are Doc Holliday and Pat Narduzzi. Someone has mentioned Dan Mullen as a dark horse, perhaps speculating because of his wife's Pittsburgh ties.

Nothing has been mentioned about the AD job.

I don't know what "go big" means to anybody else, but I can't picture who would think it means Holliday and Narduzzi.

GO BIG could mean this:

OR this:

In fact, it seems like Kansas has "gone big" a couple of times with recent hires!

That would be a HUGE mistake, pun intended.

Mangino wouldn't be a bad hire. He won at Kansas, how many people can say that?

But if you were dead set on going big this is who I would choose

"Go big" with a coordinator or coach of a c-usa school. That's not big, even if they wind up being good hires.

RE: Fire Pederson
Pitt is in a little bit of a pickle with going "big". They're going to have to convince someone to commit long term and will probably have a fairly large buyout clause built in.

RE: Fire Pederson
There really don't appear to be a lot of big time candidates available. The big names were really Pelini and Muschamp and they're spoken for. Otherwise, you're looking at coordinators like Narduzzi or lower level HCs like Holliday.

I think going big may also mean a commitment to the assistant coach salaries like we haven't seen before and facility improvements, etc.

RE: Fire Pederson
Nobody's going to want to hire Pelini after the way he ripped his old boss.

Narduzzi would be a fine hire, as long as he got a good OC.

A lower level coach would NOT be a "big" hire, and would carry a lot of risk IMO.

I wasn't joking about Friedgen. He's a solid coach and has extensive recruiting ties in the Mid-Atlantic. His offensive style also wouldn't require a roster rebuild.

I agree. His offensive pedigree is pretty impressive. His offense is multiple, featuring pro sets and spread sets as well. He also does a nice job of mixing in just enough option scheme to make a defense spend time prepping for it.

Plus, you could get him. He was pretty mad at how things went down at Maryland. I would think he would jump at the chance.
