USM releases two guards from basketball team
@munzly: Southern Miss guards Shadell Millinghaus and Dallas Anglin have been released, per an athletic dept. press release.

That hurts. That's 14.6 points off the team for a team that has already struggled scoring the ball at times this year.

Ouch! EverRespect you were right. We probably won't get to 6 wins now.

The dumpster fire known as USM athletics continues to burn. This Doc Sadler is just one more disaster in Hattiesburg.

WKU has lost 3 guys so far, none were very impactful but still...Any injuries and our depth we have is out the window...

I wonder if this has anything to do with the Tyndall wrongdoings as this is 2 of the names mentioned

never understood why USM went with Sadler when they could have gotten better coaches

It is called the "buddy" system of hiring. He and our disaster of an AD were buddies.

That was a popular question when he was hired and still is today. Only thing I think I remember hearing around his hire was that him and the AD worked together at Houston many years ago

Our coach was hired in the same manner, but fortunately it looks like the AD is going to get away with it as Jones is vindicating him. There was a lot of turmoil surrounding the hire for quite awhile though.

Jones did big things at least in his time at UVA. His past resume made him a good candidate for ODU (although perhaps not the best).

Sadler on the other hand has a less illustrious career. Sadler has one NCAA tournament game in his career, which he lost. He only made it past the first round the NIT one time.

Not saying Sadler won't be successful by any means, but it definitely reeks of "buddy hire" more than ODU's because Sadler didn't really have a good pedigree like Jones did.

Anglin was brought in after Tyndall left so he wasn't part of the NCAA investigation. My guess is both guys thought they should be getting starters minutes and were only playing 15-20 minutes a game. We're down to 9 scholarship players and the Freshman we have should have redshirted.

He did well at UVA for awhile. He had also just come off something like a 10-21 season at American. The guy has proven he can flat out coach... I guess he just had a limited talent pool he could draw from at American. He righted the ship, taking a team last season that he couldn't even run scrimmages with due to lack of players and coached them to 18-18 and this year with a couple of new additions it looks like we could potentially be a top 50 team. I didn't like the hire, but it looks like I was wrong. In his tenure, I can only think of 2 games that he has been outcoached... one coming in our lone loss this year with no time to prepare for an unusual complex defense.

Agree.

I still think a guy like Mike Rhoades would have been better though. I think he would have been a knockout hire at ODU. If he can get a 4 star recruit to commit to Rice, I think he would absolutely kill it at ODU on the recruiting trail.

I think Jones on the other hand is going to squeeze every bit of talent out of players that he can though, so in the end it may all balance out.

Title is misleading, right? Aren't the players just transferring out?

fixed. I meant to type releases, but instead wrote dismisses. Must be a habit from following our teams.

They both asked to be released from the dumpster fire. No word if Sadler is still a funny dude.

Anglin left for family reasons and Millinghaus left because of lack of playing time per media release. Both school and players have said it was the players' decision to leave and not related to Tyndall investigation

2 guys from Wichita St who would have been excellent choices for USM (or anyone in CUSA)

Greg Heiar wanted the job in a big way. He had lots of support from many people at USM. Instead our brilliant AD hired a failed HC because they were buds. Typical USM move these days. The self destruction button for USM athletics was punched years ago and it is in full force.
