never understood why USM went with Sadler when they could have gotten better coaches

It is called the "buddy" system of hiring. He and our disaster of an AD were buddies.

Our coach was hired in the same manner, but fortunately it looks like the AD is going to get away with it as Jones is vindicating him. There was a lot of turmoil surrounding the hire for quite awhile though.

There is ZERO COMPARISON to be made between Jones and Sadler.

Sadler sucks HARD! I'm glad that Southern Miss hired that man. It just means one less team that will give us trouble.

Doc was a disaster at Nebraska... And he really threw the UTEP fan base in the dumpster when he said "But its NEBRASKA!!!!!!"

I think that and CUSA school that gave that man a job, considering his past, deserves to GET BENT.

Its too bad too. I would hate to go from Eustachy to Tindell to SADler. Lmao. He even looks like a bum off the street.

He has a masters degree. He's not a doctor.

Somehow I don't think calling the coach of a mostly black roster Master Sadler is a good idea though. 05-stirthepot

And some of our fans accept the destruction of USM athletics and continually pump sunshine out of their ass in the face of reality. No thanks. I will call it as it is.

The thing is, a lot of the stuff Doc's trying to do comedy-wise just don't work at a small, Southern, non-AQ institution. We don't have the budget for prop comedy, and we don't have the talent for improv. Doc showed some aptitude for sarcasm earlier in his career, and is known for doing impressions, but neither of these systems of basketball comedy have ever gained much traction in the Deep South. The locals just stand there slack-jawed, wondering what Doc's talking about, and everyone is just uncomfortable. The net effect of all of this is the whole program is under a sort of constant, low-level stress, and comedy-wise this translates to an utter lack of timing... the pie hits Bingaya in the face, and people laugh, but none of it seems funny enough to carry us through conference play.

RE: USM releases two guards from basketball team
more bad news about sadler....

Quote:HATTIESBURG AMERICAN, Jason Munz: Both players cited frustration with their roles on the team as the reason why they asked for their release.

"Southern (Miss) is a great school, but I was playing out of position basketball-wise," Millinghaus told the Hattiesburg American. "I was recruited as a point guard and I wasn't playing that here. I felt like this was the best decision for me."

Anglin echoed those sentiments.

"I was unhappy," he said. "I know this was a surprise to the coaches and administration but I had to make a decision for my well-being."

....never liked this hire and for these guys to state it so bluntly....it's all I need to know...

told ya guys to get used to 600 in the seats again.....and wednesday can't be blamed anymore....

at least the last 6 years have been fun to watch.....

Jones did big things at least in his time at UVA. His past resume made him a good candidate for ODU (although perhaps not the best).

Sadler on the other hand has a less illustrious career. Sadler has one NCAA tournament game in his career, which he lost. He only made it past the first round the NIT one time.

Not saying Sadler won't be successful by any means, but it definitely reeks of "buddy hire" more than ODU's because Sadler didn't really have a good pedigree like Jones did.

And don't forget that his one tournament appearance was with a team stocked with Billy Gillispie recruits...
