WMU Football.......1990's style
From 1990-1995, we won 7 games each season. Four seasons of 7-4 and two season of 7-3-1. In 1996 we had a losing season (2-9), followed by an 8-3 record in '97, a 7-4 record in '98 and a 6-5 record in 1999. One losing season the entire decade! In today's college football we would have played in 8 or 9 bowl games in the 90's. Wow!

Now that is one fantastic decade of football. The golden age of WMU Football, in my opinion. You can't argue with those numbers.

I am one of Coach Fleck's biggest supporters and I love what is happening with our program right now. The purpose of this thread was to pay a little respect to the past though. Can you imagine this place if we had nine winning seasons in a ten year period? Tack on the 2000 season when we won 9 games, and there is a possibility we would have played in 10 bowl games in 11 seasons. It's all about perspective. We fell short in terms of conference championships, but I'm proud of our past. I believe many universities out there would be satisfied with a decade like that.

Not to mention the uniforms in in the early to mid 90's were the best in school history, in my opinion.

Respect to the past 04-rock

Kind of my point on another thread.

Fleck and some of the 2005 and later alums act as if we've never seen a winning team at WMU.

I graduated in 2002. We had a lot of great teams in my 4 years. I had classes with Chris Browning...came across as a meathead, but turned out to be great classmate.

Part of rowing the boat is looking back at "how far you have come" b/c when you row, you are facing backwards.

I am likely just adding fuel to your fire.

There are better pics out there, but these uniforms were a good representation of our true school colors. I love that Fleck brought back the brown and gold.

I'd love to see the team wear throwback uniforms from different eras for one home game each season, preferably on Homecoming.

That's a great idea! Bring these back once a year:

I could be wrong, but IIRC we only wore these helmets for two seasons: 1996 and 1997.

You are correct. For a number of years before that, the helmet was the same, minus the bronco inside of the block "W".

Hoke, I am with you, these are my favorite helmets of all time too. Saw them play in these at MSU in '97.

RE: WMU Football.......1990's style
Here's the number of seasons within the given winning percentage ranges in the history of WMU football:

[Image: oimg?key=0AhMJ2GK-HKOMcGFMMTNHZ25xcFVvNm...qzro5r2i87]

I used winning percentage instead of number of wins since in the early years WMU played less than 10 games. You can see there are more seasons on the right side of .500.

EDIT: Looks like it takes a LONG time to load.

And here's since 1972 (the first season playing 11 games or more):

BTW, google spreadsheet publishing that data as an image is awesome. It updates the image in real-time if I update the source data.

I think we were 7-5 in 99. With that heartbreaker to undefeated Marshall in the macc. We were up 23 - 0 and ended in losing to Pennington & Co. After a questionable late hit on Marshalls final drive

1991 we really won 6 games but Florida state had to forfeit their blowout win over us. We missed two field goals to start the game. I was a freshman listening on the radio getting drunk with other freshman. The next four years we won 7 each year which were my years on the field.

What!? Why did FSU forfeit?

That's exactly what I thought. Wmubroncos.com says 6-5.
