What!? Why did FSU forfeit?

Wrong year of forfeit but we only won 6 that year

I remember watching that game in the Burnhams, my first year at WMU. FSU fumbled on their opening play and we recovered inside the 20. Missed a FG and downhill from there. Wandered to the Bernhard Center and they had in on the TV there.

Our trip to Tallahassee in 2007(?) was far more entertaining.

7-4, then 7-5 after losing to Marshall. Ahhh, I remember that game (sniff sniff). I also remember going down to Florida causing frat-boy-like shenanigans for the opener that year.

I was wrong about the forfeit but we did only win 6. Jay Barressi missed two 33 yard field goals.

31-26 at halftime against the Spurrier-lead Gators. I remember that well.

Yep, I made the trek for that one as well.

Steve Neal turned a short pass into a 65 yard TD. Shortly after that a sweet pick 6.

Things got away from us late in the third quarter, but it was a fun game.

One of my favorite 90s road games was the comeback win at Vandy. Lester bomb to Micah Zuhl setting up the game winning Selent FG at time ran out.

There are better pics out there, but these uniforms were a good representation of our true school colors. I love that Fleck brought back the brown and gold.

How did WMU ever get a game with the Oakland Raiders?

I LOVE the 90's Broncos! Tayles, McDonough, Welsch, Lester...excellent QB's. Had some wonderful times in the BMB then as a super fan. Nearly got killed walking through the CMU alumni tent in Mt. Pleasant while singing the fight song. Unfortunately, they always had the last laugh up there.

Remember when we could tailgate down by the rec?

Yeah, right after they fumbled the ball on our 2nd half kickoff, and within seconds Sanford ran it in for a TD. 5 pt game. Gator fans were SILENT around me. I yelled with glee.

Oh, they started as an FBS team but worked their way up to the NFL after that season, as the AFC West wanted to expand their division.

In 1996 we had a losing season (2-9), followed by an 8-3 record in '97, a 7-4 record in '98 and a 6-5 record in 1999. One losing season the entire decade! In today's college football we would have played in 8 or 9 bowl games in the 90's. Wow!

Now that is one fantastic decade of football. The golden age of WMU Football, in my opinion. You can't argue with those numbers.

I am one of Coach Fleck's biggest supporters and I love what is happening with our program right now. The purpose of this thread was to pay a little respect to the past though. Can you imagine this place if we had nine winning seasons in a ten year period? Tack on the 2000 season when we won 9 games, and there is a possibility we would have played in 10 bowl games in 11 seasons. It's all about perspective. We fell short in terms of conference championships, but I'm proud of our past. I believe many universities out there would be satisfied with a decade like that.

Not to mention the uniforms in in the early to mid 90's were the best in school history, in my opinion.

Respect to the past 04-rock

Remember ALL of those MAC Titles we won during that "Golden Decade". Oh wait, my bad.

Below is a link to a YouTube video from the final drive of the 1999 MACC.

WARNING: This video was produced by a Marshall fan and will probably make you want to 03-puke if you decide to torture yourself by watching the entire final Marshall drive.

For those interested in seeing the questionable late hit, though, it happens around the 1:27 mark:

FWIW I think the officials made the right call on that play, as much as it sucked for us.

RE: WMU Football.......1990's style
Molde and staff did not have all the advantages the program has had since Darnell - no Brown or Seelye Centers for ex.

For two years the team had to practice at Nazareth College or Woods Lake Elementary. Kimbo has talked about position meetings in Waldo bathrooms. Staff offices were in ancient Oakland Gym.

Try recruiting to that and winning championships.
