RE: Why Healthcare Costs so Much: Example 29374932
My hope is that at some point, we as a country will finally come to the conclusion that we must require something in return of those given entitlements. People most always have better outcomes when taught to fish as opposed to being given fish.

Unfortunately, there are politicians that have learned they can dole out these entitlements in return for votes. It is a huge incentive to not only pass out "free lunches" to those already receiving them, but to actually increase those on the dole.

Of course, many realize that at some point, they'll run out of someone else's money.

I thought the only way I could escape the regular **** roaches that I took care of in the ICU and more specifically the ER was to go work level 1 trauma at the Med, who only accepts trauma pt's so you would think that people wouldn't have daily or weekly trauma, but they do and they have just as many regulars as other places do which was incredible to think. I know I sound like a heartless nurse which is far from the truth because I treat the junky regulars as well as I treat the true emergencies but you do get deflated and agitated taking care of these bottom feeders of society who are a lost cause because of the dependence that our govt has perpetuated on society.

You think bottom feeders are created by the government? I assure you, they come in every form of government except maybe Nazi Germany where they would be gathered together and shot.

While the government doesn't create this, it's policies of handing out entitlements without requiring anything in return does nothing but foster this type of behavior.

The "takers" get used to being given something for nothing, and before too long come to expect it and then b!tch when it doesn't suit their whims.

It takes years of spoiling your child to create a sense of entitlement. If your kids turn out like that, you have no one to blame but yourself.

You are correct that the "entitlement mentality" has become generational. BTW, none of my kids are on the dole - they are in the workforce and would be labeled "makers", not "takers".
