Christmas Realignment Wish List - If you could move the teams and have the final say
Here is an idea, just post what you would like to see the conferences to fall out if the B12 were to go to 12. Try not to flame, give reasons or provoke. You get power to say, this is how I would like to see conferences laid out when all is said and done. Feel free to make how you would like to see it and not blast anyone's plan, just post yours. Trying a wild experiment, a positive only thread.

ACC - Stands Pat
SEC - Stands Pat
PAC - Stands Pat
B10- Stands Pat
MAC - Stands Pat
MWC - Stands Pat
B12 - Add Cincy and BYU full time
AAC - Add Marshall
CUSA - Add Ark St and stays at 12
SB - Add E. Ky and JMU or Liberty goes to 12.

Who is next? Again, lets not try to flame and post what you would like to see.

First the Big 12 and ACC get the waiver for a non-divisional CCG and remain the 12 team stipulation.

Then trade teams between CUSA and SBC and draw a line between AL and MS. Everyone complains about travel, but no one looks at the easiest solution.

Yeah TV revenue, I hear ya, but in 2017 that difference goes away.

RE: Christmas Realignment Wish List - If you could move the teams and have the final say
If the Big 12 adds BYU and Cincinnati, I think the only trigger at the FBS level would be that the AAC would add UMass as a full member.

That could very well cause aftershocks with the non-football Division I conferences, though, with the Atlantic 10 and WCC looking for replacements (as they're on the stronger side of the non-football leagues where they could pretty much poach any school outside of the Big East) that could cause a change reaction down the line.

I never knew Georgia State was in the ACC or was a candidate for the B12. Do you mean Georgia Tech?

RE: Christmas Realignment Wish List - If you could move the teams and have the final say
I'd like to see them all limit themselves to 12 and re-create an eastern conference.

Pac 12-no change
MAC-no change
MWC-no change
Big 10-dumps Rutgers and Nebraska
SEC-dumps South Carolina and Vanderbilt
ACC-dumps BC, Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame, adds Cincinnati
Big 12-dumps West Virginia, adds Nebraska, BYU, Houston
New East-Rutgers, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame, WVU + UConn, Memphis, UCF, USF
AAC/E-Temple, Navy, Army, UMass, Marshall, ODU, ECU, Charlotte,FAU, FIU, WKU, MTSU
CUSA/SW-UTEP, UTSA, UNT, Rice, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, Texas St., Louisiana Tech, NMSU, ULL, USM
SB-Appalachian St., Arkansas St., ULM, USA, Troy, GSU, GSU, Idaho

RE: Christmas Realignment Wish List
The initial premise wouldn't be my preference, but just for kicks, I will play (since I don't have to get any of the schools to actually have to agree with my decisions).

I would have the Big 12 add Cincy, Memphis, Tulane and Colorado State, going to 14.

To get all the P5 to 14, I would have the PAC add Nevada and New Mexico.

Keeping the requirement for divisions, I would place Nevada in the PAC North with the Washingtons, Oregons, Cal and Stanford. New Mexico would join USC, UCLA and the Four Corners schools.

Big 12 divisions would be:

Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Kansas, Colorado St and Tulane.

Kansas St, Iowa St, TCU, Baylor, West Virginia, Cincy and Memphis.

I couldn't think of anything to name these divisions, since they aren't purely geographical (and Legends and Leaders seemed too corny).

I would allow the P5 to determine their champion by a four team playoff, matching each division's #1 (based on division record only) team with the other division's #2 in the first round.

The AAC replaces the three teams it lost to the P5 with Marshall, Old Dominion and Army, staying at 12. The MWC also stays at 12 by adding UTEP, Idaho and New Mexico State. These conferences choose their champion by a 2 team CCG, and send their champion to the 8 team playoff with the P5 champions.

That leaves, C-USA with 10 teams, and the Sunbelt with 9. After relegating Eastern Michigan due to persistent failure to meet minimum attendance requirements, they are now down to 11. BYU, Notre Dame and UMass are independent (unless UMass realizes they belong in FCS). The three conferences determine their champion by a full round robin schedule. The C-USA champ plays the SBC champ, and the MAC champ plays whichever independent has the best record. The two winners then meet for the eighth and final spot in the Quarterfinals.

Since conference playoff teams are determined by division standings only, the conference championship playoff can start in Week 12. Teams that aren't in the playoff fill out their final three regular season games by being matched up against teams in the other division of their conference in Weeks 12-15. They still have bowl eligibility to play for, so the games aren't meaningless.

For the Quarterfinals, I would have three P5 champions (selected on a rotating basis) host the three G5/Indy teams, and the other two P5 champions play each other, rotating home field. The semis would have the two westernmost teams play in Phoenix, and the two easternmost teams in the Superdome in New Orleans in Week 15, with the Finals at Jerry World after New Years. The bowls are no longer a part of the playoff tournament. They are free to do whatever they want.

Whew. After all that work, I need a beer.

No conference changes except dividing the Pac-12 football divisions the way it should have been done in the first place.

Pac-12 North: Washington, Washington St., Oregon, Oregon St., Colorado, Utah

Pac-12 South: Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Arizona, Arizona St.

Rivalry games have to be restored, each of these at least every other year: Nebraska-Oklahoma, Texas-Texas A&M, Pitt-Penn State, Pitt-WVU, Utah-BYU.

I think I take a more minimalist approach, opting for as much stability as possibe:

PAC - No Changes
Big 10 - No changes
SEC - No changes
ACC - No changes, but drops 1
Big 12 - Adds Notre Dame and BYU (yeah, I know not likely, but it's what I'd do)

AAC - No Change
MAC - No Change
MWC - No Change
C-USA - Add Louisiana to replace UAB, keeping UAB all other sports. No need for even divisions in all other sports.
SBC - Add Missouri State, Eastern Kentucky to get to 12, which I would require.)

Did you have a specific team in mind, or do you just think the ACC should only have 13 teams?

RE:
Decision is made to split into 8 16-team super conferences. P5 conferences told they must get to 16 by any means possible. G5 conferences left to duke it out for survival.

Big 12 is the odd conference left out, but manages to survive by keeping Texas and Oklahoma in one division and adding most of the AAC to the other division. Negotiates TV deal in such way that the 2 divisions are evaluated separately, so remaining Big 12 programs still able to keep pace with other power conferences.

Independents are forced to join conferences, which leads to Army/Navy to the MAC with UMass and Temple, and Notre Dame to the ACC. I won't go through the line of thinking with each school and conference, except to say I tried to keep it as geographically, culturally, and historically (keeping the major conferences together) realistic as possible. This still isn't realistic, but not as far-fetched as some scenarios out there.

Each 16-team conference plays 7 division games with 2 cross-division games -- however, only the 7 division games count towards determining a division champion. All 16 division champions advance to playoff after 11-game regular season along with 8 at-large teams, bringing the FBS in line with the FCS. Additionally, there is a 2nd 24-team NIT tournament, allowing a total of 48 teams to make the post-season.

Although I did give this some considerable thought, I didn't spend a whole lot of time on it, so I am open to suggestions and may tweak it later.
