Chris Dortch and Lipscomb
Listening to the radio this morning and Dortch came on to talk college basketball. In the midst of the conversation, Lipscomb and conference expansion came up. This is when he made maybe the dumbest statement I've ever heard on air. He stated that Lipscomb is a prime candidate for the socon and both parties are interested.
I believe he should be drug tested.

Are you being serious? I'm going to assume so. Chris graduated from ETSU, has taught at ETSU as well as UTC. He's covered college basketball forever.
I think he's in the dept. of communications wall of fame.

He has covered basketball for who? Why would we have heard him, lots of people have graduated from ETSU.

He is also the founder/editor of the Blue Ribbon annuals isn't he? Those are pretty good reads, especially the basketball issue. He is also a regular guest on a Knoxville sports talks show. I have no idea if the Lipscomb thing is true or not, but I would say he has good connections.

Still not sure why it is such a huge shock that people haven't heard of him.

RE: Chris Dortch and Lipscomb
He's worked for SI, the Chattanooga paper, he worked up here for awhile. He's covered the SoCon for years off and on. He's also done work ESPN, CBS, Fox Sports, and various other major publications. He's the real deal when it comes to college basketball. That amazes me that a basketball aficionado such as yourself wouldn't be familiar with the Blue Ribbon College basketball yearbook.
Plus, I figure if he's a good enough source to be on the highest rated sports talk station in the country, he's probably pretty good at his job.
Not saying I agree with what he said, the only way that would happen is if Belmont came with them. That I could see. Big market that's been getting more and more play down here, increased footprint and would make a nice little pod of teams with UT-C, ETSU, Belmont, Lipscomb, Samford, and Western Carolina. That's not a bad little division in a 12 team league, especially with Lipscomb who's not doing too awful bad this year. .500 overall and 3-0 in the A-Sun with a 2nd year coach.
It's highly unlikely, but packaged right it wouldn't be the worst thing.

Probably have heard him at some point on the radio and read something he has written but he is hardly a household name and
probably not a name important enough to register as Oh wow, that is Christ Dortch.

He's not Andy Staples, but if I'm not mistaken is in the TSWA hall of fame, the ETSU Dept. of Communications Hall of Fame and has won countless awards, covering the SoCon while ETSU was in it the last time. You probably didn't hear him up there due to Bill Meade being lazy as hell with his "caller driven" show. He'd rather have "Anti Gamecock" call in as well as Bubba from Hickory Tree talking about Tennessee High than he would having a structured program where people who cover the sports that move the needle regionally come on and talk sports.
And like I said, the comments made me laugh (I almost wrecked going down I-65 this morning when he said it), but after thinking about the idea of bringing Belmont with them, that could be discussed.

He was actually on the plane that went down in 1984.

Probably don't recognize the names Troy Lee Mikell or Winfred King either
Hmmmm NO I remember going to games with Mikell and King, but I was 14-15 years old in 84, so while I was going to the games with my father, no I wasn't really bothering to read about them in the paper and even if I had been I doubt I would remember the name of some random writer from 30 years ago, sorry I guess that means I am not a true a ETSU fan. Dortch= 2 All time ETSU legends. So I guess that means,, Janzen??=Talford and Jennings? Geez

Bill Meade does the same tired junk he has been doing for a 25 years. Bobby on the other hand on his morning show and when he subs for Bill has lots of good and interesting guests.
