Next year we open with Vanderbilt on the road, a game I expect us to win. Won't be a completely hostile crowd as Vandy will probably pull 30k tops for that game, and id estimate 10k WKU fans (we had about 20k travel to Nashville last year for the UK game).
After that, we have games against a bad Miami (OHIO) at home, and an average Indiana team on the road. We could very well be 5-0 (depending on when the bye week is) heading into a likely ranked LSU game, and with wins against Two p5 teams, we may be in the top 25, or pretty close. A close game against LSU should prevent us from dropping much in the rankings, and if we take care of business the rest of the way (we should be favored in all games after that), I expect to see us finish in the top 25 unless we blunder somewhere (such as losing to Vandy or IU, or somewhere in conference, which is likely to happen somewhere).
But, we always seem to "pull a Western," so I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

You're defense will allow every team you play to be 'in the game' (unless you improve it by at least 10 points/game). If you lose a bunch of Sr.'s from this year's defense (say >30%), then I doubt you can make up those 10 points. If your defense comes back pretty much in tact then it will come down to turn-overs; you win or tie the turn-over game you'll likely win, you lose it and the game will be very much in jeopardy.

Marhsall was a good example of this (with better defense). They played pretty much lights-out on offense all year and probably won most of the turn-over battles to-boot. Your offense will probably be similar but I'm just not sure they can match Cato's consistency....mix in your defense and I find top-25 problematic.

Word of advice....WKU needs to learn how to finish (that goes directly to coaching).

Like in what way? because that makes zero sense considering Western returns the most consistent QB in the conference...MVP of the conference, most of our offensive line, all of our RBs, along with a redshirt fr that is suppose to be as good as any rb on our team....

btw Allen had 1542 yards rushing, at 5.7 yards a carry along with another 475 yards receiving. And we lose 1 of out top 7 WR's

As for the defense....Western returns 8, maybe 9 starters along with a starter from UAB. But what I think most teams will see this coming season is a offense that comes out in the 3rd qt passing instead of running clock...

that easily accounted for 10ppg given up by our defense this past season. So I doubt you see the same mistakes made by taking the foot off the gas as you did from our rookie coach.

Other than La Tech and the only other person to stop our offense was the WKU coaches. Easily 2 extra possession a game we gave the other team by doing this...

Like I said I doubt you see that next year

You must have missed the second half of the Marshall game...You were held to 10 pts

No 18 points but I stand by what I said....and if you want to say Marshall stopped the WKU offense that your opinion. But 67 points says you didn't

81 yards miss fg
69 yards fg
65 yards TD
16 YARDS PUNT
25 yards TD

Now Marshall did get a stop with time running out in the 4th

just in case you can't figure out what that is it's Westerns 2nd half drives. But hey if it helps you...Marshall stopped Western....1 out of 5 drives

Um, No.. The second half is the second half, and OT is OT... So, just so we're clear... Marshall made no adjustments and your coaches caused you to score only ten points??? 03-lmfao

Do you really want to argue Marshall stopped Western after giving up 67 points? Tell the Marshall players and the rest of the Marshall fans...OT doesn't matter.

OK like I said Marshall stopped Western 1 out of 4 drives in the 2nd half..25% rate and 0 out of 1 drive in OT. But like I said if it makes you feel better...

Marshall stopped the Western offense

Clearly your credibility sucks as bad as your math because you don't even know the number of drives in the second half... Wait, are you are the guy who also thought we had three Texas Teams?

So yep...you were pretty much shut down in the second half...

2/5 = .40

And even using your math 3/6 = .50

Glad WKU is getting a lecture from an FIU fan concerning football..YOu might want to worry about yourselves....

As far as defense if it just goes from horrible to mediocre we have a chance for a memorable season...Granted I still can see us losing some games we should not lose, but we have our best shot ever in FBS to contend for a title...We return everyone on defense and getting some help from some UAB transfers hopefully....

Dude give it up anyone that says a defense stopped a team that scored 67 point in a football is grasping at thin air. For the record a drive that starts with 39 seconds left in the game...I tend not to count. Sure Marshall got a int off it so if you want to count it go ahead. But in reality time had more to do with it than Marshall...

But then again you are the person saying OT doesn't count. As for the number of Texas schools you have me confused with someone else.

Like I said if it makes you feel better to say Marshall stopped a team who scored 67 freaking points on your defense...go ahead. I will repeat that again.....

67 freaking points and 738 yards. Do you really believe your argument? 733 yards and 67 freaking points. If so you are going to be all by yourself because I don't believe there's 2 Marshall fans stupid enough to make that augment. Just to point it out again to argue Marshall's defense "stopped" a team that scored....

67 point, not basketball but FOOTBALL and gave up 738 yards

Lecture? or comments for discussion? isn't that what these boards are about? May want to thicken your skin a bit if you plan on contending next year.

That day our defense was like Swiss cheese. Have to say Doughty was highly impressive.

Probably deserves its own thread but word I'm hearing is LSU is wanting to buy out the Western game. Not a game at Western. Not a neutral field game. A home game.

That'd screw us in the butt schedule-wise.

Came from a good source.

What? That is beyond ridiculous...UK has an opening with UAB gone, lets make it happen UK!

I am not playing,haha..Thick skin?

Just find it humorous a FIU fan telling us what we need to work on who has no idea what we bring back on defense or who we have coming in... Do we need to list what FIU needs improvement on without any clue on what FIU has back?..I read you post as basically no chance in hell WKU is a Top 25 team..Will it be easy, no, will it happen? Who knows? we can be ranked if we improve from this past season...I am not as confident we are ranked as that other WKU poster, but to say its impossible is a little over board and silly........We all know what we need to improve on for next season, hopefully we see improvement...

Im the one that had said no more Texas teams in another thread and that three was enough. I forgot all about Rice.......so bite me 05-nono But in all seriousness, adding a 5th Texas team would be crazy, might as well rename CUSA to CTX and a random few

I would rather play another home game than a 7th Road game during the 2015 Season. As a season ticket holder, I want to always play at least 6 games at home each season.

Take LSU's money and get a 6th home game and I will be happy.

Beed, do you have any additional information? Like why (assuming they think we would be a legitiment threat to beat them); how much (assume we would have to net the amt they are contracted to pay us{less travel costs} plus the amt. we would have to pay to buy a home game,

If your source is correct this information suggests that at least one SEC school thinks we will be pretty good this coming season. If this is true, in my mind it speaks volumes about how far Hilltopper football has come in just a few short years!

Priceless... Now you're not counting 39 second "phantom drives"!!! LMAO!!! What does 67 points have to do second half adjustments. I've already conceded that we couldn't stop a clock in the first half, but if you think that our defense wasn't up to the task in the second half, go right ahead if it makes YOU feel better.

You scored 49 in the first half... and not even close to that in the second... Simple math bro. You guys won the game and beat us, no doubt about it...No one is arguing that point. But you can't say that you were anywhere close to as effective as you were in the second half.

04-jawdrop What a shocker. Louisville buys out Marshall....and now rumor that LSU wants out of Western KY.

Then SOS drops and you fight the perception of scheduling weak to build your record all season long. Man this is a nasty system the P5 has created.

We played LSU tough in the first half when they were the number 1 team in the nation back in '11...I think it was like 10 to 3 or something like that at the half?

WKU tried to pull the old "bait-and-switch" on them. Told them they were getting an easy win directional school. I'm sure they were none too pleased to find they had an access bowl contender on their OOC, not cool dude!
