Is CUSA Holding Off on Replacing UAB?
Does CUSA wait to see what the Big XII does before moving to replace UAB? With the understanding the FBS playoff payout to G5 conferences based on a 12 team conference. IF the Big XII takes Cincinnati and BYU and the AAC responds by taking someone from CUSA, do the CUSA Presidents elect to remain at 12 schools?

Just looking for opinions and perspectives.

Nope, if the presidents vote to give UAB the boot they'll act quickly to replace.

I hope we are holding off to see if UAB can get things fixed. This isn't over yet for them. #FreeUAB!

Yep. If we get booted in January you might hear the replacement announced by June.

Just looking for opinions and perspectives.

First, you don't make a move days after a decision like that is made. Any moves would take careful analysis and consultation with the networks we are currently in negotiations with for our next TV deal with.

Second, it's clear the situation in Birmingham is far from over.

Third, C-USA will be playing with 13 schools next year. There is no way around that. Even if UAB reinstates they won't be playing next year. Further, if we invite someone now the new school wouldn't be able to come on board until the 2016-17 academic year, so the league has until June 30 to make any decisions with respect to adding another school. Don't expect anything to happen quickly.

As much as I don't like it, I can't see UAB playing football next fall. Their coaches are accepting other jobs and the players are visiting other schools.

IF it does come to having to replace UAB (still hoping not), I am sure conference already has it's list updated and researched.

I don't see the Big XII adding two teams just to get to 12 so they can have a championship game. Each team is currently getting roughly $25 million from their media deals so any new teams being added would need to generate that much additional for it to work. The current members aren't going to give up money in order to add two teams.

We haven't even had the viewing, yet. Can we wait till after the funeral to bury the body?

With substantial money for a champ game along with new markets, both of which are needed by the Big 12, they might actual make a move this spring. If so, it could affect either the MWC or AAC or both. That would then affect C-USA. UAB re-instating FB would be great but if that does not happen and we lose 1 or more teams to other conferences, look for C-USA to be ready to act before next June.

MUther, so, when is the appropriate time to discuss? I haven't seen an obit in the paper yet to know when the viewing and funeral is.

I respectfully disagree. It's a message board. If you can't discuss here, then where? Everyone is respecting UAB and no one is wishing them gone. The amount of support and outcry has been incredible and justified. However, players are looking for new schools, coaches are looking for new jobs, schedules are starting to be adjusted. I think we are past the "viewing and funeral". Doesn't mean it doesn't still suck what has happened and we can't still hope that UAB figures this out and keeps football. But the fall out is happening, whether we talk about it or not. #FreeUAB

Totally agree. It's a message board and this conversation will go on until either UAB is back in the fold or is gone. Could be months. Hopefully UAB and it's BOT will make the right decision and bring football back but either way, lots to discuss on a sports message board.

Banowsky is waiting on the State of Florida to actually create our next member. He likes to at least see a scale model of a ribbon-cutting ceremony before giving out a bid.

I think the only thing the MW would be affected by is that BYU going to the Big 12 would change the stratedgy (if any) for expansion options. Not that the MW probably wouldn't mind having BYU back in, at least it will completely elminate that option of waiting to see if BYU Indy experiment fails.

You have to keep in mind some of the MU folks have a hang up about App. They're still mad the Mountaineers were the first team to whip them in their new stadium - actually handed them their first two reg season loses in the new diggs - and hold a 14-6 SoCon record over them.

I would hope so. It's definitely in their best interest to see what happens.

The point being that list is moot if there is another waterfall event from a Big 12 expansion.

I think you'll some combination of BYU, Cincy and Memphis go to the Big XII once bowl season ends. This would put the AAC down to 10 or 11...is it worth it for them to add anyone? I highly doubt we'll see any current AAC team in the 4 team playoff so all they'd be doing is fighting for the Access spot and I don't think a CCG is necessary to bump their credibility. However, if the AAC poaches a team, the ripple affect will likely be felt all the way to the FCS level.

Most likely you're right but CSU is not out of the realm of possibilities for the Big 12.
