I am going to add one more. Opening night, first game for Charles Ramsey. EMU defeats Ben Braun's Cal team. They even gave away pupil vs. student Ramsey/Braun bobbleheads. A decent crowd turned out too. It was a fun, memorable night.

there was also a game near the end of Craig Cashen's senior year where he hit a 25 foot shot (he was right in front of our bench) to win the game. im pretty sure it was against Ball State. not on this level, but it was cool to see him have a big moment like that.

but that's is how all EMU students act once they transfer

For a guy drawing a paycheck broadcasting EMU, that's rather deplorable.

RE: Best EMU victory during your time as a fan
I'll just chime in with a couple thoughts here. I think from a regional and national standpoint, clearly the game last night is one of the biggest victories in school history. I also appreciated during the broadcast ESPN showing off our victory against Duke in the NCAA Tournament. I graduated High School in 2003 and started in the Fall of '03.

From a personal standpoint the best EMU victory that I attended live was easily the EMU-CMU epic at Ford Field. 64-61 4 OT's. That was easily one of the craziest and most frenzied environments that I have ever been in. The crowd was phenomenal for both sides(I especially appreciated watching CMU's students running back and forth from one endzone to the other). It was just one of those phenomenal moments where I was glowing for days afterwards. I've seen some very exciting games with more "meaning" but that game took the cake for me. One of my favorite moments of that game was a comment my dad made throughout the game. "Tonight, I truly feel that EMU is going to win this game and I felt as if EMU was going to make every play to win the game." For anyone who knows .001% about Eastern Michigan football, that feeling is unfortunately rare and fleeting. I still get chills thinking about that game (as a matter of fact, I enjoyed all of the games at Ford Field).

The other moments that stick out to me as mentioned above was the California game. That was another amazing win and another great moment under Coach Ramsey.

Those were the ones that I enjoyed live.

Other moments that I thought were memorable:
1. The year that EMU's women's basketball team beat Bowling Green to make the NCAA Tournament, then following that up with their furious comeback that just came a bit short against Boston College.
2. The year that EMU's baseball team made the NCAA Tournament and played Kentucky and Arizona at the University of Michigan. Even though those were two losses, those were two very entertaining baseball games. (I did get to see these live!)

However, bottom line. Best EMU victory I've now seen is the one that happened last night at Crisler Center. I'm still glowing here in Louisville about it.

Can we follow it up with a second shock against MSU?

This is the best EMU victory since they beat UM in 1997. That UM team went on to win the Big Ten tournament. So it was a pretty good team in it’s own right.

This is an young Michigan team, but EMU is inexperienced as well so that excuse doesn’t fly. EMU was the better team last night.

Beilein went out of his way to praise EMU after the game. He said it was the best zone he ever coached against. That’s some praise from a guy who spent years playing Boeheim.

Agree that the 1997 win over U-M was way more impressive. But this was a nice win for the current program. I think a MAC championship should be the goal for this team. Price and Talley are the keys to another special EMU season.

My best EMU hoops win was the NCAA Tournament win over Duke.

Let's hope I can update the memory with some more recent stuff pretty soon.

HuronDave,

I concur. I don't know how old you are, I'm 49, but I'm right there with you. I had returned to EMU in 1987, after being tossed out at the end of my freshman year in 1984, and was it ever a great "welcome home" to have EMU win the MAC and the Cal Bowl. Half way through grad school I got burned out and decided to get a full time job. One of the fellas I was working with was a Mississippi State grad and we wagered a friendly little bet. Much to his chagrin he had to buy me a full case of Guinness Stout after EMU beat his alma mater.

It was joyful to hear the Michigan folk at work this morning telling me that EMU got lucky last night. I told them, no, it would have been luck had U-M hit that 3 at the end of regulation. Gotta love U-M slappies.

Rob

I was at the Cal Bowl in 1987. Compared to today there were hardly and bowl games then, probably less than half. The California Raisin Bowl was played in Fresno and matched the MAC champ against the PCAA champ. Fresno and San Jose State were the power teams in the PCAA and it was a mixed bag in the MAC. Although the MAC had a few wins, the PCAA champ had terribly beaten the MAC champ in some of these games.

EMU played SJSU, but a very large portion of the crowd were Fresno fans. Not only was it their field, but Fresno was one of the preseason favorites. The weather was cool and overcast and by the second half many of the Fresno fans were gone and the weather turned a bit worse.

SJSU was loaded in the backfield. They had three RBs who had substantial careers in the NFL, including a freshman named Johnny Johnson. He went on to be an NFL star, piling up big yardage as both a runner and receiver. While SJSU seemed to have an advantage at the skill positions, EMUs OL owned the SJ DL. EMU built up a lead based on a pounding running game and stupid SJ penalties. But SJ eventually got in a groove and EMU hung on to win, sealing the game on a dropped SJ pass on fourth down in EMU territory.

The OC for that SJ team was Rick Rasnick who would later become HC at EMU where he and Charlie Batch put up some fine offensive shows.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned a baseball game. The team went to two college World Series in 75 and 76. I believe they were runnerup in 76, so there had to have been some huge wins along the way.

Back then the park didn't have a fence down the third base and first base lines, so people would bring their lawn chairs and sit there in the sun instead of the stadium in the shade. I recall seeing hundreds of people when a team like UM would come in. It was a very fun atmosphere. Putting up fences was probably a lawyer's idea.

I also didn't see any mention of Track or Cross Country. Granted, they're not games in the same way football and basketball are, but there have been some outstanding accomplishments. Former coach Parks frequently mentions beating Big 10 Champ Illinois at Bowen Fieldhouse one year in a dual meet as a highlight. And there were victories in the Central Collegiate Conference meet that included many teams from the Midwest. Individually, on TV I saw Earl Jones win a bronze medal in the 800 meter run in the LA Olympics. Some of you may have seen Hasley Crawford win the 100 meters in Montreal.
