"The school sold a little more than 5,000 tickets out of an allotment of 8,000, although a number of UCF fans bought tickets through a secondary market for a lesser price." Considering the attendance was almost 22k, I'm sure lots of UCF fans bought through a secondary market for that game

This game should definitely be a sellout, however. NC State>>>Ball State

Not to mention that for our first trip there against Rutgers, UCF sold out three separate allotments of tickets and had well over 20,000 fans in St. Pete. Poor Rutgers had the tiniest section but they got the last laugh in the end after whipping us.

I think we'll have more than 20,000 considering how far the program has grown since then. NC State will also have less fans than Rutgers because of the date of the game
I think the fanbase has turned the corner. The turnout for the Noon USF game on Black Friday convinced me. It's a combination of the Fiesta Bowl run & 8 seasons playing in the OCS that has school pride at an all time high. Good news

It was great to see UCF Fans "take over" Tampa on Black Friday...and since so many UCF Fans couldn't afford high priced airline tix to the Fiesta Bowl (or obviously to the Croke Park Classic in Dublin, Ireland), I know plenty of those Knight fans that are hungry again for a fun road trip in FLA.

Even though a lot of UCF fans can't make this bowl game on the 26th (out of town for Christmas), as long as UCF can win this bowl game (would be UCF's 4th straight bowl game win...and 3rd in 3 years), that's what will matter most.

If UCF only got 6000 this time, why can some schools sell more than 15k to a bowl game in the past?

Because they requested more?

Its called "initial allotment"...as UCF sold out 3 allotments to the St Pete Bowl in 2009...and once all ticketmaster non-allotment tix were sold...UCF brought over 20,000 for that 29,000 stadium capacity game.

UCF had larger initial allotments for bigger bowl games in the past (both Liberty Bowls, etc..).

Even bowl officials were somewhat leary of Dec 26th bowl date...as they know most fans can't/won't travel there on Christmas...and/or obviously have Christmas plans well in advance of official bowl invite just weeks before the game...so I'm sure they are happy with UCF's selection.

Doubt NC State will have many fans at this game...so I don't think it will sellout like it did in 2009.

What is an "A+" grade this year for St Pete?

Oh well, will be watching it that night and hope next season the bowl game will not be the 26th. Should be a good game. Go Pack!

I hope the Pack have a good crowd, but I can't blame them for not being all that jazzed about the game.

Personally I want the place filled and only 47 Pack fans there. I want a sea of black and gold, and home field advantage.

There were still 4-5K fans there. The problem for that game is we had just come off losing to Tulsa in the Champ game and drew a MAC school. Interest level wasn't really there.

Teams perceived as "smaller schools" struggle each year to sell out their allotment - this is great for UCF and a great signal for years to come and future bowl bids.

I'm going to the game. It'll be my first UCF game in-person since the dark days of 2011.

I'm going to the game. Bringing anywhere between 2 and 6 people with me. Meeting up with another dozen maybe.

It's hard to compete with stubhub, I bought my tickets to the fiesta bowl through that site. I was 10 rows up on the 40 yd line lower level and I paid $130/ticket. UCF wanted me to pay twice that for the third level. Yeah I was sitting around the enemy but my seats rocked. Hell my tickets to the USF game sucked balls, why? Because I went through the school. I am a GKC member and try and support the school where I can but damn, when you can go to a 3rd party get better tickets cheaper it's hard to compete. $80 for hot garbage seats, yeah good luck with that.

Yes, when you have to significantly travel to get to your bowl game (like you did last year). This year, I doubt anyone looks at UCF's numbers and says "See!" Anyone, including teams perceived as "smaller schools", would be expected to have high ticket sales when you are basically traveling just outside your backyard. It doesn't diminish the fact your are selling your tickets. Just that it isn't some sign of how well UCF travels. There are anomalies. But for the most part, the top bowl for your conference is something most expect will have large contingencies of fans (Liberty, Fiesta, etc.). Close bowls are also no brainers for attendance expectations. Average bowls with a good travel distance involved is where a team's traveling fanbase generally get judged. Fair or unfair, it happens.

I knew this was coming. Here's the reality:

If UCF didn't draw in large numbers, the haters would declare that UCF's fanbase sucks and this is a huge indication that UCF isn't ready for primetime.

When UCF does draw in large numbers, the haters will write it off by saying "Whatever, you should have anyways! Not a big deal!".

It's not a big deal, until it is.

Uh, the reality is that apex has a point. We are a very young football university with a lot of success compared to the other G5, but because of the youth of the university, a majority of our alumni are young as well. We may churn out thousands of graduates every year, but we don't have that fanbase contingency that can afford to consistently travel to away games yet.

I think we did decently with the Fiesta Bowl given the distance. We had good numbers for a G5 school and our fanbase was definitely louder than Baylor's. And the rate at which we're selling tickets for the Bitcoin Bowl is still something to be proud of.

Our program is under the microscope. Let's do our part and #TakeoverTampaBay.... again #ChargeOn

Point 1: It was only 6000 tickets
Point 2: 6000 tickets in 2 days is still not bad
Point 3: We have over two weeks to sell 6000+ more.

I optimistically think we'll have a packed house for this one.

good job!! That's impressive!

Do you think that from a perception perspective that those looking into the "microscope" see this as home game or do they see this as answering the question does UCF "travel well" ?

My opinion is that this is perceived as virtually a home game for UCF and high turn-out is expected. Anything less than a high turn-out by UCF will be seen as a disappointment.*

* And I know that its over 100 miles to the stadium from Campus.

I don't think the powers that be are looking at this game, because it's the St. Pete bowl, so the point is moot.

For last year however, while I don't think we sold out half of UoP stadium in Arizona, we had a respectable presence. I bet if it was the Sugar Bowl we would have sold out and then some.

We ll see what Boise does this year. How many miles is Orlando from Phoenix and Boise to Phoenix?

One thing that hurt us on the Fiesta Bowl was the Ireland trip having been announced and people saving up for that. I know a few people who forewent the Fiesta Bowl because they wanted to go to Ireland and couldn't afford to do both. Plus the Fiesta was a costly trip on relatively short notice. UCF has a lot of alumni, but the vast majority are under 40 and have kids...there's not a metric ton of retirees with disposable income like the Big Ten schools have.
