Your research expenditure for Baylor is wrong. That refers to the Baylor College of Medicine, which is in Houston and is completely unaffiliated with Baylor University.

Baylor University finishes outside the top 250 in research expenditures. As of 2010 they were #309 with roughly $11 million annual spending on research.

This brings up a good point - presidents sign on the dotted lines, and they want to be associated with similar institutions. However I think the Big 12 is less concerned about these things than any other P5 conference.

They probably look at athletic revenue too.

This just goes to show how insulated and in need of reform our higher education system.

It's an industry, like any other, that uses young people as a cover while they enrich themselves at their expense.
