Baseball 2015 - West Virginia Comes to Town March 6-8
Other non-conference sets include Eastern Kentucky, Butler, Miami (OH), and one on the road at Saint Louis. Tennessee and Virginia Tech play midweek games at The Thom in year 3 (technically year 4, but the stadium had no seating in 2012). The Bucs play in a tournament in Spartanburg against Upstate, Asheville, and Pitt.

In total, the schedule has teams from ten different states and eleven different leagues (including the SoCon). I don't think that's really all that different from schedules in the past, but it just seems different to my eyes. West Virginia is a decided upgrade on Hartford, but I'm not sure if the rest is all that much better. UT and VA Tech should both sell out.

As for whether or not the team will be good, that's anyone's guess. I count 18 freshmen on the roster, which is usually not a great sign.

Skole has to be in trouble. His saving grace may be football and basketball spending. The Bucs have lost 16 of their last 21.

Yeah this season has been a disaster. At the soonest possible moment, he's probably going to be gone.

They're awful. Its time for Skole to go.

Bucs finish the season last in the SoCon and were eliminated from the SoCon Tournament in the play-in game. ETSU finishes 21-35.

How important is baseball? It does generate some revenue, right? And that new field, what about it and the place of baseball in the spending priority of athletics? I believe that I heard Sander say that with the addition of some women's sports, men's sports could be cut. What men's sports could be on the chopping block?

I don't think that men's sports will be cut. Instead, I think that they will reduce the number of athletic scholarships available to several of the men's sports. Seems like a good idea especially in the sports like baseball and football which get so many kids from TN who could qualify under the lottery scholarship.

The thing about baseball is that it is the one sport that we are most likely to hit the athletic jackpot in. Predicting greatness in baseball is not an exact science and every once in awhile a kid comes out of the woodwork and does great things. It happens in football too, but baseball doesn't really cost that much... I think NCAA limit is like 10-11 scholarships. Examples include Curtis Granderson at UIC or Chris Sale at FL Gulf Coast, who will get a lotto-sized contract next year. I thought that Rex Brothers (Lipscomb) would hit the jackpot, too, but obviously not so far. We had Atlee Hammaker back in the day, but that was before the really big contracts. I'd like to see us find a way to make baseball work. Granderson built UIC a new stadium, entirely.

Sander has never said a sport would be dropped. Ever.

He made a statement of cuts on the men's side while discussing adding sports on the women's side in one of those "inside the Dome" chats. Not at all specific, however.

I could see Men's track being completely eliminated but leaving cross country there. Baseball won't get cut out completely.
Regardless, this season, much like Tony Skole's tenure was garbage. Dead last and lose to The Citadel in the play in game of the conference tournament? Damn I thought the A-Sun was supposed to HELP baseball get better?
