Being in the MWC would absolutely suck. Could you imagine games starting at 9:00pm our time? All the time?! Plus I would consider that somewhat of a lateral move. Maybe a touch up, but the AAC would be a much better fit.

Getting into Texas is high on MWC wants. UTEP would seem to make the most sense if Hawaii were to drop.

BYU is doing better on their own than with the MWC.

I'm sure losing to TCU to the Big 12 hurt them a lot, but they are located in the heart of Texas, UTEP is on the far western end of the state. Maybe they would try to poach SMU from the AAC. Also, I am not so sure BYU is enjoying the independent experience. Their scheduling has really taken a hit.

SMU isn't leaving AAC to go west. They just joined that conference.

Plus, SMU fits the AAC much better. Schools in large cities and markets, less of a time change, they are also becoming better at bball and bball is better in the AAC.

True about BYU but what they have over most mid-tier schools is a strong, I mean strong following nationwide. Their scheduling has been more difficult but they accept bowl games before the season actually starts. Living in Utah I get to hear their BS everyday, it gets old quick. Plus being independent they don't have to address to the public every detail about their program. I pull for whatever team plays BYU. It's my oath.

Hua? How do you think that moving from a MWC without Utah and TCU that their schedule has taken a hit?

Next 5 seasons they will be hosting...Boise St, ECU, UCONN, Cincinnati, Fresno, UCLA, UMASS, So Miss, Utah St, Utah, Boise St, UMASS, Cal, Utah St, NIU, Hawaii, USC, Wshington, Wisconsin, Arizona, Missouri & Boise St.

Their 3rd worst home game in 5 seasons will be So Miss, NIU, ECU or UCONN! In the MWC they would have had to play New Mexico and San Jose St combined at home 3 times in 4 years.

Point taken but they have always been able to draw good home and homes. I believe over time not winning Conf championships will hurt them, that and accepting bowls before they even begin to play. BYU uses football to promote their church, it is true. Their school is already good and believe or not hard to get into. USC, UCLA, Wiscy, Mizzu, and AU are great home games, most of the others are average and teams they basically play or are on the same level. I could be totally wrong, BYU is that weird.

RE: If UAB is really kaput
BYU also has a much more rich tradition than NIU.

They have a national tirle, a Heisman winner and many many successful NFL players. They are doing just fine outside of the MWC.

They can recruit the entire country because the church. They have big time national support from church members even if they aren't alumni, and the school is very very good.

I work with numerous BYU alum and they are very smart individuals. One of my close friends in dallas is a BYU alum and a big time supporter. He thinks the independent is a play to join the big 12.

Quote:"You're either moving forward or moving back," Frazier said. "As my wife would say, there's no such thing as half pregnant."

Well, there's always such thing as something. Never say never, said the coat hangar!

But yes, you do need work to move forward. Nothing's instant, but over time if you don't work on improving/moving forward, you'll end up sliding back well below your peak. Ya just can't expect to sit up high and "ride it out". I would say putting a lot of money in advertising and events about NIU football (and basketball) could get things going after a few years. You'll have to, of course, match that with 9-11 win seasons, too -- but if the next years are going to be anything like This year, that shouldn't be too tough for NIU.

RE: If UAB is really kaput
News coming out today make it seem that UAB will likely not receive a bowl invite.

All 5 of the CUSA bowls must pick all the 7-5 teams before any 6-6 teams.

It is also very unlikely that a bowl with an at large spot will invite the team with so much uncertainty. On top of that there will be several P5 teams available for at large selections which will be much better draw than the UAB storyline.

Good move by BGSU. Making $1.2MM by filling in for UAB's game @Tenn next year.

Not like it would make a huge difference in SoS because Georgia State is awful, but they were scheduled to play @UAB the day we play Murray State. Would be nice to have no FCS teams on the schedule.

They were discussing this on Sirius XM this morning in regards to Baylor trying to get this game...I went to check this afternoon and saw BG in there, thought I had the wrong year....but great move by BGSU, altough that's a bit too much orange for one football field!

Why weren't we on top of this? Was SF slow to the dance on this one? Seems like this would have been a great move for us.

UNLV is in DeKalb that day. Gotta play some home games every now and then.

If we could get them to Huskie Stadium for the same money we were going to pay Murry St then that would be great. More likely this would either require more money to GA St or a 1-1 agreement. Playing GA St rather than Murry St is worth neither.
