Quote:I talked with a few well-placed people yesterday. They agreed that the Big 12 getting left out of the playoff was great for the Bearcats. They downplayed any notion that Nippert wouldn't be big enough for the conference, or that travel would be an issue. One worry was that certain folks might want to wait on an ACC invite, even if the Big 12 offered. They said that worry wasn't big, though. Nor should it be. If you look at the travel issue, the only place that presents a nightmare is Texas Tech, 1.036 miles away. The rest are about 2 hours or less by plane.
Stillwater, Manhattan and Ames are an absolute joy getting in and out of. FTR, Lubbock has an international airport.

Eh... I doubt the Big XII is going to offer so the issue is moot.

It's definitely a tough decision if Cincinnati gets a Big XII invite. Accept it and risk ending up like WVU where they may have been ahead of UofL to replace UMD in the ACC.

Agreed. While the ACC would be preferred, I don't think either will come anytime soon. If the Big 12 offered, we'd be foolish to look a gift horse in the mouth.
For what it's worth, that journalist is one of the best newspaper writers in the country. Here's his formal column on the topic:

Doc doesn't have a ton of inside sources, and his negativity on everything is annoying at times. But he's an outstanding writer.

Nothing tough about it - if the Big12 is serious about expansion. You take what is offered, period.

I think it's ridiculous to think that at this point in time G5 programs are in a position to choose which P5 conference they will go to.
That's downright silly.

The reality is that, if you're outside a "Power Conference" you are doomed.
It's just a matter of how slowly you're dying.

Agree. Also, the ACC isn't calling.

RE: Cincinnati newspaper
If B12 offers Cincy, they be crazy to turn it down. The ACC is not looking to expand. Only ND wanting to join full time could cause that. In addition, if the ACC gets to decide who plays in CCG instead of Divsions, then they don't even need to add a team if ND joins. I still predict the P5 will vote for conference to decide on how to select for the CCG but refuse to lower the 12 team limit.
