RE: Vote for UC as B12
Wow, I'm amazed...Memphis has one mediocre season of football and you would think they invented the game and are some perennial powerhouse?!?! Let's face it...Memphis was never part of the expansion conversation. It was just over the past week or two that they have even entered into it and I still don't think it's going to happen.
We (UC) have more and offer way more to any conference than Memphis ever could. If a conference was only interested in stadium seating and arena seating, then Memphis may have a shot with the Liberty Bowl and the Pyramid (but we always have PBS (70K) which is bigger and nicer than the Liberty Bowl in our backyard and at our disposal)...but that is probably 1/20th of the equation and outside of that and the so called Fed-Ex $$$ (whatever the hell that theory is) they offer little to nothing. Our on campus facilities are improving and are going to be way better within the next few years. The ACC took Pitt a few years ago, and we owned them the majority of the time in football. Pitt doesn't have it's own stadium, they play at Heinz field...so anyone standing on those theories and criteria; are severely flawed! Pitt had the tradition, footprint, university standing, athletic budget, location and national perception that the ACC was looking for.
I'm glad Memphis had a good season and "yes" Memphis beat us this year...but if one year or the current year defines a program then watch out cause Marshall, CSU and Boise St are ahead of Memphis and UC. We have 2 BCS bowls, numerous Big East Championships and now a shared AAC championship, in 5 out of the past 7 years...I think and know that national perception and anyone with half a brain knows UC is light years ahead of Memphis in football and on equal or better ground in basketball.
If the criteria is TV money, geographic footprint and market then again UC is WAY ahead of Memphis. We have already shown the endowments, national university rankings, research, etc. UC obliterates Memphis! If a travel partner is what WV is hoping for, than I guarantee that WV has pushed for us and not brought Memphis into the convo. I could argue that UCF or USF bring more to the table than does Memphis and should be in line numerous spots ahead of Memphis, as I would be really happy for Memphis to get a spot in a P5 conference; but it will not and should not happen ahead of UC though. If BYU played games on Sundays, then they would be a no brainer for the Big12. How many league football championships has Memphis won, outside of this year?!?
Now let me post for you where Memphis falls and where the state of TN falls as compared to Cincinnati and Ohio.
The 381 Metropolitan Statistical Areas of the United States of America
Rank Metropolitan Statistical Area 2013 Estimate 2010 Census Change Encompassing Combined Statistical Area
28 Cincinnati, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area 2,137,406 2,114,580 +1.08% Cincinnati-Wilmington-Maysville, OH-KY-IN Combined Statistical Area
41 Memphis, TN-MS-AR Metropolitan Statistical Area 1,341,746 1,324,829 +1.28% Memphis-Forrest City, TN-MS-AR Combined Statistical Area
Now add in in the Dayton area, which the Cincinnati and Dayton areas are slowly merging...that adds an additional 802,000.
Ohio population and conversely TV sets compared to TN...
TN = Housing units, 2013 2,840,914
OH = Housing units, 2013 5,123,997
I'm just saying, if you're gonna come here and talk smack, then maybe you should be armed with insider knowledge and be able to share that and back it up. Otherwise, stop trolling and realize you are poking a bear that is way bigger and has way more credentials than Memphis could dream up in 10 years (kind of like us going onto an Alabama board and talking gibberish). If you are coming to a gun fight...you should probably bring more than a rib bone you pulled out of the dumpster you are living in.
If Memphis gets into any P5 conference ahead of UC...then I will eat crow...alive or dead.
