RE: KSU Wrestling - 2015 Season
With a wrestler in the 285 final, Northern Iowa will probably pass us up. Or not...

Did a little better than I thought we would. We beat CMU and DePalma wrestled as well as he had all year. Small went out as he has so many times, losing in OT. He never won very many OT matches.

Looks like Miller, DePalma and Lytle will go the NCAAs. MacKenzie and Marsh have a chance for a wild card. Your right about Baxter. He goes to the NCAA if he finishes sixth but couldn't win a match.

Notes from the Big 10 tournament:

OSU ties Iowa for the title; the first for OSU since 1951. Martinez (Illinois) won a title as a freshman in impressive fashion. He beat Miller in the last match of the year and is a lot like Ian. I hate Iowa.

The Flashes finished ahead of Central Michigan in the team score at a MAC Championship for the first time since 1997.

Marsh didn't desetve it. He had all of the opportunity in the tournament to show up but didn't. Baxter disappeared as well, but I will give him benefit of the doubt due to injury.

Regardless, 5 qualifiers is good. I'm still hoping Small turns it on and wrestles to his potential.

RE: KSU Wrestling - 2015 Season
Here are the opening matches for KSU:

133: 16 Mack McGuire (29-11) vs. Gary Wayne Harding (28-11) Oklahoma State
141: Tyler Small (32-13) vs. 4 Devin Carter (29-3) Virginia Tech
149: Mike DePalma (21-17) vs. 13 Charles Cobb (20-5) Penn
157: 7 Ian Miller (12-4) vs. Doug Welch (27-11) Purdue
285: Mimmo Lytle (28-18) vs. 12 Denzel Dejournette (32-4) Appalachian State

McGuire should win his match but then will face the #1 seed from Minnesota as reward.
Small draws a hammer in Carter (his losses are to a teammate and the #1 and #2 ranked wrestlers).
DePalma seems to have his head right and is wrestling well now. He has an opponent that has not wrestled a tough schedule so an "upset" is realistic. With a win he will face the #4 seed from Iowa.
Miller is seeded at #7 which places him on the other side of the bracket from #1 Rodriguez who pinned him in the last match of the season. After he wins his first 2 matches, Ian gets the #2 seed from Cornell who he I think he will beat. Assuming I'm correct, he will get #3 Ness from Minnesota and an opportunity for payback for last year's loss. If he wins, he will face either Green (who has beat Ian twice) or the freshman phenom from Illinois. This weight class is loaded with exciting wrestlers and should be very entertaining. Ian can win it all, but certainly will be severely tested. Hopefully, he stays healthy and gets hot.
Like DePalma, Mimmo draws a seeded wrestler that has a strong record but hasn't faced tough competition due to his conference. They have wrestled a number of common opponents with the App State kid having fared slightly better. If Mimmo can keep it close, he can get the upset.
As a team, most of our scoring will be done by Miller but the other 4 are all capable of winning matches. If we can avoid 0-2 performances from them, and assuming Ian has an AA finish, we can secure a top 20 finish.

RE: KSU Wrestling - 2015 Season
McGuire won 10-4 and will face the Minnesota hammer who will promptly send him to the consolation round.
Small got wrecked by Carter with a tech fall. He gets an average Iowa State opponent. Will he step up and wrestle with urgency? I'm not holding my breath...
DePalma lost 8-5 and will face Ill wrestler that our back-up lost to (4-3) recently. DePalma should win.
Miller wins 9-4 and has OU next. Should be another win.
Lytle has not wrestled yet.

Lots and lots of upsets so far. Love it!

He almost pulled it off. Miller is about 10 minutes away. He's on mat 5. You can see it on watch ESPN.

RE: KSU Wrestling - 2015 Season
Small is getting ripped, 12-2 in the 2nd period. Such a sad ending to a great career; he finishes with the 3rd most wins in KSU history but never was an AA. 5/10 years ago he would have been the talk of the program but with the recent, multiple AAs, he finishes his career with a lot of unfulfilled potential.

RE: KSU Wrestling - 2015 Season
Small got pinned. He was losing 14-3 at the time. DePalma was up 10-2 after one period. The score got to 11-8 and then he was pinned. A terrible performance. I think Andrusky was ready to kill him. Tomorrow we will have Miller in the quarters. McGuire in the consolations. Lytle will wrestle later. He needs to win to get to tomorrow.

Small gets pinned as does DePalma. Blech. So much for team points from the supporting class...
