UConn - Is not going. They aren't leaving the Big East again.
SDSU - Will be the one school going to the PAC
UNLV - We can beat them head-to-head academically, on the field, budget, and market.
That leaves us. If this guy is right, and no one else leaves the PAC, we are the most likely pick.
This is the moment the Memphis architects have been prognosticating on for about a year. Which is why it was urgent to move on the stadium enhancements when they did. Over a year ago they saw the situation where CU would go back to the B12, and if no other PAC schools moved with them, they would almost have to add one additional school to make it an even 14 for the upcoming year.
And the reason why it might only be CU from the PAC is two-fold.
1. The B12 only has so many pro-rata spots available. For this moment (the 2024 year) they only have two, with CU taking one. That leaves one open, and they will need to fill it and not stay at 13.
2. The PAC teams are laid out in a way that means half of the schools media markets are covered by the other half. (Az and Az St, Washington and Washington St, Oregon and Oregon St, Two cali schools, and Utah in which the B12 already has BYU. ) So, while the B12 media partners would be thrilled to have an Az, Washington and Oregon, they would not want to prorata the other sister schools because they would be paying for some of those markets twice.
So, by being limited in how many schools the B12 can take (it can only take 2 this year and 2 next year) that would leave a lot of PAC sister schools in 3 or 4 states with a sibling left out. I'm not sure that is going to fly politically.
If AZ does not pull the trigger, then the odds of a Memphis invite is pretty high. And we should know this within a few weeks. So at the moment, we have the development of CU leaving, and noone else announcing anything, and thats where we need this to stay until the B12 has to move.
Of course, if the B1g prancy foots back and takes a couple of pac schools, that may change a whole hell of a lot. But I seriously doubt they do that.
