Yes, UCF wants to accommodate the young crowd who wants to stand up, walk around, talk to girls, dabble on their smartphone, and watch a little of the game. I don't think that will play at WMU.
I propose, The Old Foggies section. If an old foggie yells at someone for standing up, security will instantly remove that person from the stadium. So for those rabid fans like Hiller4Heiz who like to stand and cheer, the old foggie need only go, "Damn it, sit the hell down!" A WMU police officer will be on the scene immediately to remove the offender from the premises.
No Standing No Cheering Allowed

Yes, the "Old Foggies Club"
Sound-proof barrier wall that eliminates the sounds of DJ Ill-mix
No standing at all times.
$1 Smithwicks
Special b!tching session at the end of the first quarter
Bingo during pre-game and shuffleboard at halftime
Nap-time at the end of the third quarter

FAU has "The Deck". open area, that is about half way up the main homestand with food, drinks with couches, big comfy chairs, high cocktail tales that can see the field from or watch on monitors. It's set up more like an open air sports bar with some cover overhead. They're were plenty of NIU fans there during the Boca Bowl.

Sounds like fun. Agree the game day experience can be different things to different folks.

Several schools in the MAC have adopted selling beer as a way to generate income and compete with P5 teams. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I know lots of people drink before the games and we used to smuggle our drinks in during college. I am all for it, if it generates more money for the athletic department and keeps fans at the games. They could incorporate a nice bar/deck and designate an adult section.
Down here in North Carolina, NC State lets fans leave at halftime to drink more and return with a stamp on their hand. Problem is, they usually don't return for the second half.

Its funny you said that. The first time I went to a Toledo game, at halftime there was a mass exit. I was thinking to myself...where is everyone going the game isn't a blow out yet? Then I realized they let their fans go back to the parking lot and open up their tailgates. They also sell beer, think it might be one of the only MAC schools that does sell.

RE: Waldo Enhancements?
Bowling Green also sells alcohol now, and the early returns there indicate that it has not enhanced attendance or revenues. All it seems to do is scratch an itch of a few people.
There are fans of all sorts. I know the ones that go out at half time for a tip, I know a couple that smuggle. I knew a professor with the fake binoculars. I also know a few, die hards old farts that don't stand and cheer. I know a lot of old farts that do. Let's face it there are ideas of all sorts.
The ones that I don' t understand are the minions of students I see that get up to go to the tailgates, and then as soon as the game starts the tail gates end and they walk across Stadium Drive to stand in line for a bus, to who knows where.
Always proud to be a Bronco, RTB.

The Growlers understood what it takes to keep a crowd. Had the Bell's Bear Cave and the Miller Lite Party Zone and with the excitement of a new product, every game nearly set attendance records. It won't go stale like the Kings did. Beer attracts crowds, especially in Kalamazoo.

Says that 21 schools sell alcohol as of August 2014 and most from non-power5 and 4 for the MAC.

I agree. Western should try to partner with Bell's. Folks outside of Kalamazoo love that stuff possibly more than folks in Kalamazoo. Give them exclusive rights in return for something in the stadium (bar or bars) and split profits. Support the local guy and differentiate from Michigan and Sparty. Hell, I think a nice apparel place in the stadium would be nice as well. It's all about the experience for the casual fan. Most of us on this board would go to games regardless of the circumstances. We are the minority.

RE: Waldo Enhancements?
I am thinking about this and it really is a great idea. Kalamazoo businesses do a great job of cross-promoting and the Kzoo community is a very tight-knit one. Take that and our collective love for beer and it would be a perfect addition to a stadium and event that could do more to connect with the local culture.
