Rumor: UCONN turned down a Big12 invite
Reportedly, UCONN turned down the Big12 so that it can remain in the American and collect exit fees and BB credits from the old BE schools. I'll post more as I get more info. Stay tuned.

He takes the drugs so we don't have to. It's an act of heroism.

Word among University presidents is that UConn had to do that to raise the cash they needed to carry out the necessary improvements that the Big 10 has placed upon them. They call it the "Left Behind" plan. Once the most valuable AAC properties are raptured to new conference homes and those fees are collected then Connecticut will rebuild itself and brand in a truly progressive conference like the Big 10, whose universities are comprised of state residents who also were oddly "Left Behind" by those moving to the Sunbelt states. Connecticut officials think this will make them a natural Big 10 fit both in state of mind and in culture. And the fact that their hoops program is stronger than their football should cement the deal.

Reportedly the Maryland administrators were unavailable for comment, but rumor has it that they were dismayed over the strategy. They had believed that they were "Moving on Up" financially and did not realize that they were merely being compensated for adding to the markets of those "Left Behind".

RE: Rumor: UCONN turned down a Big12 invite
A very prominent polling organization sampled the UCONN fanbase to get a better feel for what they truly thought about realignment and where they would like to see UCONN land when everything is completed (until the next round, of course). A large contingent were elated to remain in the American because they felt the BB was great. Another large group of fans felt that once all the exit fees and BB credits were paid out, UCONN should leave the American and go out as a FB independent while all other sports are parked in the BE. The school admin began to flesh out the independence plan to see how viable it would be. Thoughts are that scheduling alliances with the SEC and B1G would be quite doable with the plan to have 4 games a year with each conference, and then play BC during rivalry week. That does, in fact appear to be the latest plan moving forward. As usual, I'll post more as I learn more.
