"Adding two schools for the purpose of getting to 12 (for a championship game) would be among the poorest reasons to do it."

Doesn't sound like we are going to make a move soon.

Lets see what he has to say if the playoffs go to 8 with CC tie ins.

He may be correct. But adding teams that would help bolster a conference network plus help create a conference championship game might be worth it.

That's fair. The value simply isn't there. They thought they had UC/UL in their back pockets when they brokered that new TV deal. They were sadly mistaken, thanks to the Terps. No other combo meets geographic and competitive needs at this point.

It will be at least two years before there is any expansion to 8, and more likely 5 years...

Is that opinion or based on info? I have not heard anything to that nature.

The CFP contract is a three-year contract.

Will it increase the payout distribution of each team?

Any change would be in multiples of 3. They won't change for the Big 12 getting the shaft. And they probably need 2 years to plan. So unless the SEC or B1G gets hurt next year, we will be locked for 6.

RE: Bowlsby says....
I have to agree whole heartily there. Adding teams because they add overall value makes sense if there are ones who do and if you like the set-up afterward better. Whether there are teams who that is debatable (probably even among the Big 12 presidents/ADs). Maybe there, maybe there aren't. Adding teams primarily for a championship game would be a bad move for many reasons:

1. They might be able to have a CCG with 10 given governance structure of the NCAA changing which make rules changes easier.
2. CCG loses would have knocked out the CFP representatives from the ACC, SEC, and PAC-12 with only the Big Ten likely aided by one. Having one would have helped the Big 12 this year probably (although might not have mattered either). Other years the reverse will be true.
3. If you aren't satisfied with teams that are there now and guess, you can guess wrong. There might be a clear cut favorite in a few years. Don't take a risk adding the wrong teams unless you are pretty confident they will be the best long term moves.

RE: Bowlsby says....
That's what I've been saying since yesterday. The reason why TCU and Baylor got the shaft is because of the "Ohio State factor." If both Ohio State and Florida State lost, then you have both TCU and Baylor in and all this CCG talk would be moot. Having a CCG is a double edged sword. This year all the favored teams won their conference's championship game. It will not be the case every year. Upsets happen all the time.

Replace TCU for Texas and Minnesota for Ohio State with the same resumes and Texas gets in. The committee would've used Minnesota's ugly loss to Virginia Tech as the reason to keep them out. Ohio State has the cache that TCU and Baylor combined don't have. Even in the P5 cartel they take care of the bluebloods like Ohio State. TCU is seen as the new kid on the block, just 3 years removed from playing in a G5 conference. Why some people still get shocked amazes me.

Adding Cincinnati or Tulane or any other G5 school will not make any difference. Now if this happens again and the snubbed team is Texas or Oklahoma then I can see the Big XII expanding.
