I should have broken up my statement a little more... App surprised me because the were awesome... but, OOC losses hurt

RE: How did your team do against preseason expectations?
I figured we would be between 5-7 and 7-5, so obviously 9-3 was a fantastic year. I thought we would win at least one of our non-Savannah State non-conference games, so to see us come so close and miss out was frustrating, and of course the Navy beatdown was distressing. We seemed to slow down towards the end of the year, but did have a couple of key injuries and the unexpected pressure of playing from the top spot, so hopefully we can finish stronger next year.

I really thought Georgia State would do much better, nothing surprises me about Ga Southern's run, App State was a disappointment early....we really needed them to knock off S. Miss, Troy was certainly a disappointment and Idaho, who's Idaho?

I wouldn't take it as an insult. But rather dissapointment in App once again having a slow start and missing out on beating a couple key OOC opponents. You should've beat USM and Liberty, there is really no excuse. You have a good team and it showed later in the season. Unfortunately those losses and the beat downs you put on some SBC teams make the conference look weaker than it is. I really hope you win your OOC games and do well in conference. Just as long as you lose to GS. 04-cheers

If we had a kicker both those games even as poorly as we played would have been wins. 3 missed FG and an extra point missed vs. USM, and a missed 32 yarder at the end of regulation to beat Liberty after our pass defense didn't blitz all game and gave 10 yard cushions to their WRs. Amazing what opening up the defensive playbook did on the back half of the year.

RE: How did your team do against preseason expectations?
I thought we would go 2-2 OOC. After the Leading almost the whole game the NCST loss really hurt and then to make such an epic comeback (against the eventual #11 team in the nation) to lose it in the last seconds also sucked. I thought we would drop 2 conference games so that was a plus, but the conference was down a little this year so it evens out. All in all happy with the conference title and hope to repeat next year and win the Cure Bowl.

RE: How did your team do against preseason expectations?
I was hoping for at least 6-6 and finishing in the top half of the Sunbelt. I was disappointed that we lost to Southern Miss, Liberty and didn't put up much of a fight against a bad Michigan team. After seeing Georgia Southern hang with NC State and Georgia Tech, I didn't anticipate us beating them in Statesboro. I wasn't surprised with the South Alabama loss after the way we had played to that point. I expected to beat Troy and Georgia State, but was surprised when we beat ULM. I was shocked when we beat stAte, but that win had us thinking we had a shot at Lafayette, though still thought we would lose. Can't complain about our record of 7-5 and finishing 3rd, but it doesn't take away our poor performances in the first half of the season.

Next year, we are going to beat Clemson, go undefeated, and be an at large for the playoffs. :)

I'll have some of that you're having. 04-cheers

I was originally thinking we could go 6-6 with wins against Campbell, Liberty, Idaho, Georgia State, USA (at home) and Troy. I did not expect to lose to Liberty or get wins against ULL or ULM. Overall, I'm very pleased with the way the team finished with 6 straight, but geez, we should've beaten Southern Miss and Liberty. I would have rather us get beat by them instead of lose to them. I will go ahead and confirm the sour grapes with those loses.

I do expect us to start strong and finish strong. I think our OOC is very winnable, except Clemson. Although I do see us putting up a fight.

I expect we will have a big bullseye on our chest with teams like Trojans, Warhawks, Cajuns and Red Wolves.

RE: How did your team do against preseason expectations?
I think it depends on who's expectations. I know most GS fans were all over the place with our expectations because of all of the unknowns with the new coaching staff, move-up, etc.

I predicted between 6-6 and 8-4. I was expecting hard fought games between USA, TxST, Troy, and App.

Our offense definitely exceeded most peoples expectations and I think our pass defense was suspect like most anticipated but it held up when it needed to in most games. We had matched our sack total from last year in our first 6 or 7 games so that was a pleasant surprise.

As a GS fan it was an exciting season to watch knowing we were seconds away from being 11-1. Bring on 2015!

I know most people point to the Troy game as the turnaround for App's season (and no doubt your first FBS and conference win as an FBS member is huge), but I'd argue it was the ULM game in Boone. Our coaches and players finally learned how to close out a close game and come from behind. We came close at USM and at home against Liberty.

I think that game really got our coaches and players clicking. Our coaches finally figured it out and so did the players. I am hoping that this leads into a better start to next season.

Luckily, we get 3 of those 4 in the friendly combines of KBS.

IIRC, I believe we have a kicker signed and set to enroll in January.

You are correct, and he is the top ranked kicker in the state of NC. He will likely be the only incoming freshman that is not redshirted as we are returning 20 of 22 starters next year. We do have 3 JUCO transfers that are expected to challenge for starting positions, too, all from Georgia Military Academy.

They say with every disaster you should look for a silver lining......well I guess in that case we did not go 11-1 o 12-0 and be shut out of the playoffs and have to be disappointed like Baylor and TCU....yep now that is a stretch for a silver lining......but as my Chicago Cubs fan friends say.....there is always next year.....03-cloud9

The loss to Liberty was likely the low point in the season for App. But as the season progressed, App got better, and LU got better also. LU later showed it was a legit, top 10-15 FCS team with a win at JMU and near upset at Nova. LU may have jump started App with the loss to their first season in the SBC. Congrats to them on their season.

FWIW, here was the consensus view

Given the last place consensus and one of the greenest teams in CFB, the Aggies exceeded slightly.

My expectations are higher for 2015, but the Aggies will still be young.
