The governor is an idiot

Puppet.

Worthless.

Called his office back. Told Pam that the Govenor was coming across as less than concerned about the impact the UAB football decision was having on the business community here in Birmingham.

I've said it on this board before but fact is Robert Bentley is the weakest Alabama Govenor in over 70 years. He is little more than an old and feeble figurehead who's main job is to go around ribbon cutting at road construction and strip malls.

I never particularly held the governor in high esteem before, and I definitely don't now. He'd rattle off a list of reasons why he wasn't properly informed. He'd point to larger issues and say that he can't stay abreast of everything at once. He has always been a man of excuses and party lines, so, when he probably got the call from the real man in charge, he changed his tune as fast as he could to stay in the fold. No leadership at all. Just good ol' boy politics, and massaging the facts as often as he can to eek out a rejoinder about progress when always backwards is making a great case for being our state motto.

The sad part about this is that no one is surprised. This is normal for Alabama.

No one should be the least bit surprised. Bentley is and always has been a weak leader. He skates around the hard issues as much as possible. How much of a peep did you hear about the budget deficit that is millions of dollars until he was forced to speak out about it?

None of them were going to breathe a word about that until after the election. The only way out of that is to raise taxes, whether they call them fees or decreased benefits or what. Anathema to the R's, especially in the reddest of red states... even if anyone with two brain cells to rub together knew it had to come.
