So was Richard Nixon until Goldwater told him, "Dude, you don't have the votes."

Maybe that's what's happening to day.

RE: Info on Senate meting today
Where is today's meeting? Public meetings can be attended by the public, the public just can't speak at the meeting. If they try to block a member of the public from attending then they would be subject to a violation of the open meetings act and could be sued by the person or persons who where blocked from entry. The penalty for such action is the forfeiture of one months salary which is quite a bit of money for an $850,000 guy.

Oh and the neat thing is penalty money goes to the person filing the lawsuit.

He's getting around that by having it not be mandatory, and so not all faculty senators (proper term?) will be there.

He may be getting faculty senate members who support him to come. So he can coach them up about tomorrow and how they can try to sway others of the faculty senate.

I understood that today's meeting was a faculty meeting, which I assume can be closed to the public.

Tuesday's meeting is a senate meeting, which cannot be.

Am I the one confused?

The Faculty Senate is not subject to the Alabama Open Meetings Act.

The Faculty Senate is akin to a union, not a governing board.

She said today's meeting is just for faculty senate members. Of course the senate's bylaws say that all meetings are open. #FreeUAB

(Except for executive sessions, but even those have to begin in an open meeting.) #FreeUAB

Maybe there will at least be some loyal to the UAB cause at the meeting. In this era of technology, I hope someone has a video recording running to capture what is said.

Yes, but someone referred specifically to the Open Meetings Act and the fines and jail time that could result. That does not apply to the Faculty Senate.

Can't speak to the bylaws of an employee group and what the repercussions of violating those are.

RE: Info on Senate meting today
Sounds like What today's meeting is is a strategy session by the enemy in their attempt to devise a plan to save their skins. I just hope the faculty tells them a pox on your house because they are not going to like the budget cuts that the legislature is going to enact on UAB as retribution for damages done to the area.
