This was his first year coaching in the FCS. It's not like VL put up mind blowing numbers , that along with the ESPN coverage of not scoring a point in the second half. Unless he is a very likable/intelligent guy who can win over a AD in a interview , he will be a coordinator or position coach for some time.

I was afraid this would happen when I heard Herman's name mentioned for HC jobs. Losing him is a big loss.

Really hate to see a change over in staff this quickly. Man, could we not get three years with these guys together? I can't blame a guy for wanting to move up just wish it wasn't so soon.

Sorry HR, but Vad's numbers were exceptionally outstanding...and the fact VL owns just about every major JMU single season passing record is proof of that fact.

I am with LH here. The guy just won the Dudley over two FBS players. Second JMU QB to do so. Third JMU player overall. You don't win a Dudley at JMU unless you had an exceptional year.

Yep he does , he beat out the Qb we had last year, but ppl act like he wasnt an okay qb. When a qb has 450 plus passing attempts and in a spread offense I just dont get caught up in the inflated numbers in college( ive said this in preseason). Just my opinion.

This is not about last year's QB. Why do hate on VL2? Like most stats, passing attempts is not a stand-alone statistic. It must be put in context and considered with other stats. We won 9 games, his completion % went up as the year progressed I believe, and his TD/int ration was solid. I know you played for JMU and have some insider knowledge of the college game and JMU, and I want to respect you as such. But you make it difficult with posts like your last few on this thread

LOL I'm not hating on VL2 , I cant stand spread offenses. If you dont like my opinion thats fine , ive watched every game he has played, he is an athlete playing Qb. He gained my respect by improving on his passing ability. I just dont want our offense to rely on his arm. Hope we bring in a coach that will continue his progress.

And i dont "hate" on any player. But i will always be honest about what i think the film reflects. I want our players to be the best.

Ok. I get it. I suppose I was basing my comments on your entire body of work. I do agree with your comment about relying on his arm, to the extent that we need a running threat from a RB and the ability at times to chew some clock and grind it out a little

Your opinion doesn't change the fact VL posted exceptional numbers on the season, both passing and running. Indeed, VL's total yardage production put him in the top 20 players all-time in the total offensive yards category, not just at JMU, but as in all seasons IAA has been playing. As a former DB, I can understand your dislike of the spread, but your unwillingness to admit to the obvious regarding VL's performance this past season makes everything else you post on the subject dismissible.

That is interesting news, but I suspect there is just a delay while the school irons out contracts

Any chance JMU knows of the impending conference move this summer and is renegotiating a salary to keep him as CoOC of an FBS JMU?

Thanks ,

Never said a "bad" thing about VL2 , but I'll give him the more appropriate praise when his career is over at JMU. With me it's " hey good season , let's get better this off-season ." And I tell players that straight up. We did some very good things but there are things that need to be worked on to have a better season next year.

Drew may not be interested in just being a position coach. Hard to be "the man" (offensive coordinator) and take a step backward. He has a good gig at JMU right now and might be wise to pad his resume by staying next year. Deep run into the playoffs, National Player of the Year quarterback, etc.
