Screw the P5 and all their innuendo. They give none of us an ounce of respect.

We have two awesome conference champs going head to head and to me, that's WAY more exciting than any of these crap .500 teams we could have drawn. I would much rather play a quality team like you guys.

I'm pumped and believe this is going to be a battle of the best G5 teams out their!

Go Herd! Beat NIU!

Agreed.

+1 (well, except for the Beat NIU part). This should make for an interesting game.

I see this game as an opportunity to showcase the G5. It's actually a great test to see how an all G5 game can do against some of the better P5 bowl games. It's a fantastic matchup against two conference champions. Those don't happen much unless you're playing on New Years Day. In fact, it's the ONLY game that has two conference champions outside of the New Years 6 bowls. So far, people are noticing this, and they like it!

Go Huskies!

P.S. Marshall fans, please notice where Illinois' bowl game is ranked. You don't want any part of that **** show.

You would be surprised. More folks think my way than do not. It's the ones that do not who make the most noise, though.

I think many of them haven't gotten over missing the Access Bowl. We have nobody to blame for that one but ourselves. Can't wait until the last game of the season to have a meltdown and give up 49 points in a half. We were the top D in C-USA and showed it again this past weekend but for whatever reason, we got stupid for a half and it cost us.

Marshall is a quality team. When they are on, they are unstoppable. The last couple of weeks, though, they have been way too sporadic.

The best thing Marshall and NIU can do for the G5 is to have an exciting, well-attended, quality, and close game, regardless of who wins.

Let me ask you a question as someone who honestly hasn't seen Marshall play at all this year:

How fast does Marshall's offense typically operate? Do they run no huddle a lot or are they more of a pound-it and control TOP offense?

I'm not sure about tempo, but just to compare NIU has ran 995 plays this season and Marshall has ran 957.

but that also makes sense because they have the #2 offense in the country meaning they probably don't have a lot of long drives. Case in point, they have about 1500 more yards then us.

RE: Excited to play you folks!
We usually snap the ball with about 10-15 seconds on the clock. We have slowed down a lot from 2012 when we were running close to 100 plays a game. We run more than we pass and average a little over 7 yards per rush and a little over 9 per pass attempt. Very balanced on offense.

On defense we are a man, press coverage team. Four man front, smaller, but fast linebackers. Our outside backers are converted safeties, in the 220 LB range, so they are good in coverage and also quick blitzers. Our problem is with big backs that run straight at us. It's hard to get the edge on us.

Don't think I'd call Marshall bad. .

Homer prediction:
NIU: 35
Marshall: 14

Logical Prediction
NIU: 35
Marshall: 32

The Herd: 37 rushing TD's, 37 passing TD's......scored 41 pts or more in all but 2 games
potent offense? yep, I'd say so
I'd guess the over/under on this one is pretty high

RE: Excited to play you folks!
It doesn't need to be dissected much, Marshall is a very good team that played one of the weakest FBS schedules of all time. Just because they had a weak schedule, I don't think it detracts from how good they are. They destroyed just about every opponent. I think with a loss in that schedule it was right to take Boise over them however.
