First, you're lucky to find one that understands English. But if you do, you're not out of the woods yet. You only have about a 50% chance of these dolts getting your order right.

Tonight I went to Carl's Jr. (like McDonalds). I only ordered two burgers and two fries. Well ... they got one burger and one fries correct. On this trip, they batted .500. And it's not like the place was crowded; I was the only one in the restaurant.

So when I see them in the street demanding $15/hour (roughly $30K per year), I just laugh. They're lucky to be getting $7 or $8 per hour. The marketplace does not support paying them $30K per year. If they insist on that salary, they'll no doubt be replaced with machines.

I'll have to agree somewhat with someone for which I never agree.

I'll gladly support some small subsidization of the working poor to clearly differentiate them from the parasite class of non-working able-bodied adults that do nothing other than collect the benefits of my hard work and breed future generations of parasites.

To live on a menial job should suck. However, I much prefer these folks to those that have quit trying. And the standard of living for these two classes should be distinct and quantifiable.

**obviously this applies not to those that CANNOT, for proveable mental, physical, or emotional conditions.

Demeaning someone's ethics or morals in an attempt to direct attention toward your perceived saintly self is not much better. I will most definitely feel something other than happiness or sympathy toward a worker who demands more pay without either increasing productivity or enhancing the quality of their work. The world just doesn't work that way no matter how much you and other democrats may think. So love and adore all you want, my opinions won't change. 07-coffee3

Has nothing to do with protesting

They interviewed a striking fast food working up here in Minneapolis. Her name was Maria, and she had to speak through an interpreter.

Maria had lived in Minneapolis for 13 years.

Couldn't agree more. Either these people get subsidized by the government (food stamps, section 8) or they get a better wage to get them out of poverty. Its an either or situation. Crime will sky rocket to unbearable levels, think Mexico, if you stop subsidizing low income people.

Reading is fundamental...

"So when I see them in the street demanding $15/hour (roughly $30K per year), I just laugh."

Well, it is an asinine thing for them to be doing. I mean, nobody is mocking their work, folks are just amazed that they think they are "entitled" to a fake wage.

I'm more on the side of the folks looking for a raise.

When folks are underpaid, we end up paying for the shortfall through things like food stamps and assistance. The net result is that you can get the government to subsidize your business, unwillingly, if you just underpay people.

Pay structures like this force the government to continue to redress the balance. Meanwhile, thanks to the subsidy, the rich get richer, we end up footing the bill, and the worker remains the working poor.

Yep. They are also entitled to get trained/schooling so that a better than minimum wage job is in their future.

I do agree, however, that those working shouldn't be totally cutoff from the safety net of government. Those that work should live better than those that don't.
