Why can it not just be because Miss State played a tougher schedule and is a better team?
If you had to bet your house on the two teams I'm pretty sure you would go with Miss State.
Because a small committee of insiders with known affiliations is fodder for conspiracy theories. Especially when they produce an inconsistent product and give shifting rationales.
Last week, Michigan STate ranked above Mississippi STate. This week, it's reversed, with neither one having played a game.
Now, I tend to believe that the committee paid more attention this week to the final product than they had to the interim drafts--there's no sense in killing yourself when all the data isn't in.
But a small committee lends itself to the perception of shenanigans.
With secret ballots, to boot.

Actually agree with the point made here for weeks up through the 14th week. But the next to last week, if they are doing their jobs properly they are already planning for every possible scenario for the final week, especially since the final week has so few games played.
Cheers,
Neil

If Mich St would have got the orange, then Illinois would have been shut out because there are no at large spots left.
Congrats to Illinois on making a bowl!
Actually we had been hearing Rutgers would likely have been left out not Illinois.

Is that possible under BiG rules that a team that finishes 6-6 can go ahead of a team that finishes 7-5 when both teams have the same conference record of 3-5?
Cheers,
Neil
