New round of Dominos?
If the B12 gets left out after being jumped by BIG champ since they didnt have a B12 conference championship game to have a legit champ, does this send realignment back into play as the B12 scrambles to get to 12?

RE: New round or Dominos?
They played a round robin schedule- literally the most fair system possible. They have a legit champion. Baylor beat TCU. Baylor is the champion. They're just freaking out because TCU is ranked higher and at the last minute changed their rules to have co-champions.
Expansion to 8 has been inevitable from the minute they introduced this football NIT, one way or another there was going to be a scenario where the last couple slots where a toss up between a group of teams, this just happens to be the year that happens, and the Big 12 happens to be the focus of it.

To the Big 12 commissioner, the first six numbers of Sean Frazier's desk phone are 815.752.

Frazier needs to call the Big 12 commish. I can see us joining football only right away and then bring the other sports over a couple years later once the Big 12 money rolls in to improve facilities and coaches salaries

I dont think a P5 is interested in partial memberships, even if temporary.

Agree. If it means playing games a soldier Field (for a Texas or Oklahoma etc) I would mention that we can be flexible on where we play assuming we can play 2 or 3 games at home in conference for first few years. Until stadium upgrade complete. Bball shouldn't be an issue as the convo seats 10k.

BIG 12 commish just said that they feel like they were punished for not having a true championship game

B12 Commish on the selection show - we were under the impression not having a championship would NOT penalize us. We will have to go back to the drawing boards if this is the case and we would have done things differently. They will relook at possible expansion as a consideration or deregulation of the 12 team conference for a title game.
I still dont think NIU is ready for B12 though, other teams are farther along than us. We need to complete our master plan and join the AAC to further develop.

It's not a penalty. It's just a Benefit for the other teams who win in theirs. It's an extra game against good competition. Don't have a championship game? Well, schedule 13 games in your Regular season to make up for it, adding a good team each year. Doing so would not "penalize" other teams -- it would just make Yours better.
I hate when they talk about being "penalized". No, it's that you chose to play one less (high quality) game. Those who do get an added benefit, that's all.

I think if NIU gets 9-12 wins every year for the next several -- and has their new stadium setup done -- with the BBall team improved by that point -- then they'd be ready. But, never expect things to go the ideal way over the course of several years...

Ya that's not an option. The only way to play 13 regular season games is if you play at Hawaii.

The Big 12 penalized itself.

Ahhh, okay. I figured that was an option for any team but only applied in the Hawaii-situation. But still, they're not penalized any more than say, having a weaker game on their docket than someone else with a stronger one.

Penal-ized themselves or pen-alized themselves? :)

BYU and Boise State would be good fits both logistically and with their size, scope, and fan bases.

RE: New round of Dominos?
talking to one of my buddies who frequents the board but is too lazy to make an account. this is how i see it (because im a fanatic of NIU leaving the MAC for the Big 12)
to avoid the B12 ever getting fudged over like this ever again, they're DEFINITELY going to expand now. what does this mean, add 2-4 teams (2 being all they need, but 4 would improve their odds of their best teams possibly getting in). you say, they're not going to add 4 no reason whatsoever, yeah thats true, but in some weird way, if the B12 did add four, i think NIU would DEFINITELY be in the mix as a football-only member. The B12 does actually have a couple of minor sports that does have members who are primarily in another P5 conference.
Why NIU... gives you a team that has been pretty damn consistent the past 5 years, has beaten other P5 conference opponents (B10), and has the Chicago market. They cant say were too far north because you have Iowa St. right next to us and WVU which is already kinda far East compared to the Texas schools.
How would a 12 team conference with NIU possibly look.
North - South
Kansas st. - Texas
Kansas - Texas Tech
Oklahoma - Oklahoma St.
Iowa St. - TCU
NIU - Baylor
6th team - WVU
why is Oklahoma in the North? They'd still get protected rivalries and it distributes power... KSU and Oklahoma out of the North with TCU/Baylor/maybe Texas out of the south
what happens if they add 4 teams? Then the north gets 1 more and they try and find another to add to the south (and this will sound crazy, but I think Georgia Southern will one day end up in the B12, SEC, or ACC).
Possible teams for the B12 to add (IMO)... Cincy, BYU, Colorado St., NIU, Memphis (but they'd definitely be more because of basketball, i dont think the Memphis football winning will continue).

Duh! When they said conference championship would be a huge factor that should have been his first clue. A win over a highly ranked opponent for a title leaves a better last impression and a great finish to a resume' DUH!
