Thoughts on the inaugural playoff
1. The excitement this year was light years better. So many more teams were involved than what would have been a BCS Championship matchup between Alabama and FSU.
2. The committee blows....bring back a more objective set of rankings. It will be intereting to see if they put the only undefeated team at #4 in order to manipulate the rankings to create match-ups. I think that would be a significant red flag.
3. The Big XII needs a championship game. Big XII teams don't have a strong argument when every other P5 conference is playing a championship game. TCU? You played Iowa State yesterday...
4. I like the Access Bowl for G5 teams as well. The race between Marshall, Boise State, East Carolina and Colorado State added to the season IMO
All in all, the system is better....it still needs some tweaks, but it's better than the BCS.

RE: Thoughts on the inaugural playoff
Does anyone know if the semifinal matchups are even seeded? The other New Years Day bowls aren't seeded, are they?
Couldn't the committee rank 1. ALabama 2. Florida STate 3. ORegon 4. Ohio State (for argument's sake) and put Alabama-FSU in the Sugar and Oregon-OSU in the Rose, just because that's what everyone would want?

RE: Thoughts on the inaugural playoff
Hate the selection committee. Hate the playoff. We didn't need a playoff. We needed more access for programs not in the power 5 conferences. Now the little guy gets screwed even more. What we needed was for the Cotton and Peach bowls to be added to the BCS rotation. This would have given more opportunity to smaller programs to play in a bigger bowl game. What we have now is no upward movement. Its going to be harder now for the Boise states of the world to get any traction.

4 teams that are simply voted on do not make a playoff.

The #1 rank plays the #4 rank. The #2 rank plays the #3 rank.
So for that grouping they would have to put Oregon at top and Ohio State on the bottom or have Ohio State jump Florida State.
I am betting that they put Oregon at #1 so that they don't have to put OSU above FSU.

It's called the Pity Bowl, and the fact that you "like" it speaks volumes about why it should be renamed.

RE: Thoughts on the inaugural playoff
Very flawed setup. Two things need to happen
1) play off expands to 6 or 8 with auto bids for the p5 league champs
2) big 12 needs to expand to 12 and have a conf title game.
As for point 1, i would go with 6 thus giving top 2 teams a bye for their performance in the regular season. I would hold the first playoff games at 1 site the second week of december. It would be double header game so it must be indoors and on field turf, indy is probably the ideal site. The winners from the game get placed in the playoffs, losers go to a NIT type bowl to play each other
As for point 2, big 12 needs a title game. I don't like leagues under 12 having the right to host a game, so they need to expand. I like BYU and Cincy to get to 12 but it doesn't really matter who gets picked.

Is that official? Do we have a link for that?
And they put TCU above FSU, last week, so if it's 1. Alabama 2 Oregon 3 OSU 4 FSU then the question is TCU, not FSU.

Quote:Q: What's the basic format for the College Football Playoff?
A: Six bowl games have now been elevated in status above the rest: The Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Cotton and Chick-fil-A. Each year, two of those six bowls will host semifinal games on a rotating basis (Sugar/Rose for the 2014 season, Orange/Cotton in 2015, Fiesta/Chick-fil-A in 2016). Those semifinal games will be called the "College Football Playoff" and work as a straight No. 1 vs. No. 4/No. 2 vs. No. 3 matchup.

1. 4 is a lot better than 2.
2. Committee has issues, but its a lot better than coaches, senile retired sportswriters and statistically invalid computer models.
First they need to wait at least 2 weeks more weeks before they do their first poll.
3. Baylor has played for a share of the Big 12 championship the last weekend the last 2 seasons. Other conferences should have more of their top teams play. Missouri played ONE member of the top half of the SEC this year and lost 34-0 and got into the SEC ccg where they lost 42-13. They got in by beating the bottom 7 teams. Oregon had a 9 game conference schedule, but still managed to get the bottom 6 teams in the Pac 12 on their way to an 8-1 conference mark.
4. Agree.

Of course you like the Pity Bowl. You're on the right side of the fence (fan-wise) and probably consider the Pity Bowl the absolute MOST you could do. Knowing full well there's more you can do.
