What an adequate investment could have done
We talk about how much money football has cost the university. We never talk about how much money an investment would have made for us.
10 years ago following the 2004 season - we had just beaten the following schools for the second year in a row.......Baylor, Memphis, Cincinnati (all both home and away)
We also beat Mississippi State (There), and TCU.
Since that time TCU, Baylor and MS State have made major investments in there programs in both facilities and coaches. Everyone except MS State has moved into a larger conference. Despite having great basketball teams, Cincy, and Memphis only advanced because of their football teams.
Needless to say MS State, TCU and Baylor have been mentioned as part of the playoffs all year (wonder how much it would cost UAB to buy that national advertising).
Vision.....

It was indeed vision. The thing that the BoT feared most of all was having UAB grow the way that TCU did. They made every effort to smother the baby in its bed as a result.

Precisely. If TCU could do it, UCF could do it, Boise State could do it, then there is no doubt that with proper support UAB could do it. I wish we had more deep pocketed boosters that came forward with checks to fund UAB football over the next several years. And fund an OCS. UAB football would explode IMO. Especially with the right coach like Bill Clark.

We do have enough for that, we don't have the leadership though right now to stand up & force it to be used where it needs to be used.

Joe Fine (author of the "Black Friday" BOT report), Espy, St John and Bryant,Jr could not have said it better than you in perceiving their reasoning for obstructing for over two decades and eventually destroying UAB football. Their philosophy is "there can be no football before Crimson Tide football within the System" [I think you see the sarcasm (& truth) without blue font].

UAB will NEVER reach its potential while being part of the UA System. NEVER!
The UA BOT has a totally different vision for the university from those of us with a vested interest.

You are so right on. It's a vision and leadership problem, not a football problem.
