UH AD on Next Year's Bowls
On the Houston-Cincy pregame radio broadcast, the UH AD expressed a strong preference that next year's conference title game be played for the right to go to a particular bowl game. He didn't say which. Just that the teams should be playing for a spot in the league's top bowl game which would stay the same year after year. Said it would be discussed at league meetings in January.

RE: UH AD on Next Year's Bowls
That would work if we had 1 decent bowl game. If we still had even a Liberty bowl level row that works. Kids are playing first for access bowl, after that why would the care.

If there is a good bowl game to play for I agree with it. But if our best bowl game is playing a middling team from a 'P5' conference then there is not much to distinguish between the other conference bowl games.

Tell him that the highest ranked champion of the G5 receives a New Year's six bowl bid. They are playing for the right to be included in that group of champions for which the committee will select one team.

Were not gonna get any respect out of the P5, so I say that we try to form a new bowl that would match the top ranked AAC and MWC teams that didnt make it into the Access Bowls.

Maybe we can get a little cash for it and more prestige.

Strongly disagree. Prestige is inversely proportional to the degree of separation from the ""Privileged 5". Prestige requires playing them and WINNING (or at least competing evenly as my Tigers did against UCLA).

Playing for the right to play in Birmingham every year, lol.

Speaking of, what's the Bham status with UAB folding up?

RE: UH AD on Next Year's Bowls
AAC can do what CUSA is doing and let the champion decide which bowl game they'd like to attend

We offered them to play us in EVERY bowl and the best we cold get was a commitment to send their lower tier teams to a crap bowl.... and that isnt going to change.

THE only way we get respect is winning the access bowls. Our bowl lineup wont change for years to come, so I still think it would be a good idea to start a new bowl for our best vs their best. We can then permanently sell the Bahamas bowl to the CUSA for either cash or permanently getting BYU.

I personally think it would be an amazing idea to restart an old bowl. El presidente is talking about eliminating the sanctions against Cuba. Their used to be a bowl game called the Bacardi Bowl. There will be a ton of people who want to travel to Cuba since they havent been able to in 4+ decades. Shouldnt be difficult to find a sponsor and the state of Florida could work some "stay at Disney and fly out to Cuba packages".

I bet we could get a ton of attention and at a minimum get our champ into a destination game instead of the freaking Birmingham bowl.

I mean think about it... We could have something like CSU vs Memphis in Cuba. Tell me 2 snowing cities wouldnt want to go.

RE: UH AD on Next Year's Bowls
Sad part is... has anyone really looked at the Bahamas bowl.

15,000 seat multipurpose stadium (meaning there will be a track between the seats and the field... aka crappy environment and view) Gonna be a tiny crowd in a crappy stadium and will be semi expensive to get there. I REALLY hope we permanently sell this bowl to CUSA.

We had that in CUSA for a while and nobody cared. Besides, if the MW or AAC wins the G5 access bowl most of the time you would end up playing against the runner up from that conference. It just work well anymore. The best plan would be for the G5 to set aside 3 million a year from the 85 million we get from the CFP every year for the next 6 years. That would create an 18 million dollar fund that could be used to create a series of Champions Bowls that would serve as the destinations for the 4 G5 champs who do not win the access bowl. You would need 3 bowls. Two would offer slots against a #3-#5 selection from a power confernece. The third would pit the #4 and #5 G5 champs against each other. That's way better than what we have now.

In regard to Birmingham being the site. If the city of Birmingham actually put in the work and "welcomed" the fans and teams into the city and really turn it into an event that people would enjoy? Fine. I can tell you that the current situation in Birmingham surrounding the bowl is not that way. I'll leave it at that.

I don't care two shyts about all that. I will be there for two reasons: (1) watch the Blue & Gray play football on national TV against a "P5" opponent and (2) to eat, drink and be merry with my Tiger brethren. We don't need any help from the city. Here's wishing all Pirate fans happy holidays and a great time in Miami.04-cheers

Be very careful where you decide to party there. The cops are not nice. Just a word of friendly advice. 04-cheers
