Probably because we didn't have the facilities for it. Taking a trip to the bowling alley on 280 is cheaper than building Olympic diving and swimming facilities.

Outside of softball and basketball, UAB has no adequate facilities for any of their other sports teams, right? The tennis team has to use Green Springs Park, the track team has to use the Crossplex way across team, as would the diving team, the baseball team on campus field seats only 1,000, and instead of expanding, they're compelled to share games at Regions, all the while, $30 million (correct me if I'm wrong) was spent by those ba***rds on expanding UA's baseball facilities..."Fiscal responsibility" my ***!!!03-pissed

There were new tennis courts built not too long ago next to the parking deck at Rast Hall, and UAB was involved with Regions Field including the AD being on the managing board, I wouldn't say we're being "compelled" or that it is even a bad thing.

You guys are starting to lose it and it's not going to do the cause any good.

UAB can't have a "swimming & diving team" with present facilities BECAUSE the BOT demanded the pool in the student center be less than Olympic size just so we COULDN"T have such teams. They would not allow the facility to be built until assured the pool would be too small for competitive uses.

Do you have a source for that, because I've never heard that.

I have heard this for quite sometime. Talk to Attalla - he can tell you the story.

Those shoe rentals add up and Watts' study decided that bowling was one of the sports that would not move to the next level of competition.

Or maybe he was told UAB was eligible to go bowling and in a hurry to end that possibility, got confused and axed the bowling team.

Cigarettes & beer costs too much.

With over 100 male participants, Football significantly impacts the composition of women's sports to achieve a commensurate number of female student-athletes. Therefore, UAB Athletics' FBS Pro Forma incorporates Women’s Swimming and Diving to maintain female participation goals.

Um, where does that say the Board of Trustees said UAB couldn't put an olympic sized pool in the rec center?

But the BOT never said that you could not include the expense to a report to make the "numbers not look right."
