Instead of the field being mostly conference champs, you would have 3 or 4 OR MORE from one conference in the playoff. That would be ridiculous. I mean do th math 5x3=15 spots because there will NEVER be an automatic spot for 5 G5 champions. Just will never happen.

It should be 8 with 5 slots guaranteed to power 5 champions and the other 3 being at large. And no more than 2 per conference in the playoff either. If the G5 has a team that is special, they would get in. Again show me times where a G5 team that had a a special year wasnt ranked in the top 10? They were always highly ranked.

Marshall this year could have went undefeated and still woudlnt deserve it because their OOC was a joke . That is their own fault.

Your request for a "special year" from a G5 team not reaching the top 10 is invalid, the CFP ccommittee is 100% subject to human bias, unlike the BCS, the committee could rank a 13-0 Boise at 26 if they wanted to.

Your statement here is invalid because those teams showed they were legit top 10 teams and played a team or 2 with a pulse ooc.

You say my stuff is invalid. Well I can tell you right now the G5 will get 1 guaranteeD spot at most in any playoff and I am betting they won't get that

And I have no problem with that because looking at it objectively the G5 is a different level of play. No guarantees each year. They'd have to stand out to have a shot.

The 2006 Boise team that went 12-0 beat 1 P5 team, Oregon State, and only made it to 8 in the BCS.

The 2007 Hawaii team that went 12-0 beat 1 P5 team, Washington, and only made it to 10 in the BCS.

The 2008 Boise team that went 12-0 beat beat 1 P5 team, Oregon, and only made it to 9 in the BCS.

I'm not convinced the CFP committee ranks any of those teams in the top 10.

2008 Utah, 2009 Boise, 2009 TCU, might have had a shot of being begrudgingly included.

So they all made it top 10. Well the G5 team should have to beat 2 or 3 p5 teams many times to earn it anyways shouldn't they ? I mean the p5 undefeated teams beat 9 or 10 p5 teams after all

They can figure out some way where the G5 can earn a spot. No way in hell will there be a year where more than 1 deserves a spot with 8 teams

They all made it to the top 10 in the BCS, again the CFP committee can do whatever they want(like drop a team 3 spots after a 52 point win) so I honestly believe that if the requirement was to reach the top 10, those teams would have been ranked no higher than 11.

Regarding the number of worthy G5 teams relative to an 8 team format, I agree with you, it's highly unlikely we'd ever see 2 G5s among the top 8(and impossible we'd ever see them ranked as such), fortunately for me, I don't think a 12 or 16 team format is too big.

RE: To the proponents of the playoff system
You do realize that the P5 have created this system for themselves on purpose right? They have purposely created a split at the FBS level where they have the upper hand. This makes it easier for them to recruit and harder for programs in the Gof5. They did this in an effort to consolidate talent and therefore money for their schools and conferences. Now we are meant to feel bad for them where if a fair system with every conference champion was put in place it would be tougher for teams in their conference to make it? THEY DID THAT! ON PURPOSE!

Aside from that College football isn't special. P5 administrators and commissioners will tell you that because again they want all the money.

A system that is fair and equal is used in....

High School Football
FCS Football
NFL
NCAA Basketball
NCAA Lacrosse
NCAA Soccer
NCAA Baseball

I could keep going on but I think you get the point. Now ask yourself why the "sanctity" of those sporst isn't ruined by having an equitable and inclusive playoff but FBS football would somehow be ruined?

FBS football is a huge business. It isn't run on the idea of fair competition. It is run on making money. And the unfortunate thing about the whole thing is that a lot of the people making the most money have nothing to do with Universities or higher education.

Also the gap may not be as big as you think it is. In 2008 ECU won C-USA with an overall record of 9-4 and a C-USA record of 6-2. During the season they beat the eventual ACC Champions in VT and the Big East runner up in West Virginia. Would they have deserved a spot in a playoff? Or no because they are not in a P5 (then P6) conference?

As for P5 members disbanding conferences and realigning in order to get an easier path (which they would never do because of $) what would be wrong with that? It's not as if Conferences are some sacred thing. You've got teams from Kentucky and Indiana in the ATLANTIC COAST Conference and the Big EAST was looking at teams in San Diego and Idaho. The Big 12 has 10 members and the Big 10 has 14. Missouri is in the East division of the Southeastern Conference (nothing says the eastern part of the Southeast like Missouri) and Colorado and Utah are now suddenly Pacific.
