This was NIU's 5th straight appearance in the MAC Championship game and my first trip to Detroit. Feel like a dumb ***for not going before. If you ever get a chance GO – it was a blast. Ford Field is a great venue never been the dome in Indianoplis to be hard to beleive its better. Winning makes it fun, but hanging out with ole buddies and meeting new NIU people was great. I was in the Marriott bar after the game – saw Coah Novak, met the NIU President Doug Baker as well as various members of the faculty. We have good people at NIU.

Seeing the HUSKIES live is completely different than TV. They look 1000% better live. My, oh my we got some players. Our defense is incredible. D coordinator is fantastic, he calls a solid game and has some nice schemes. Combining him with our players is impressive. When you watch the HUSKIE D the thing sticks out to me is they just know how to play. Talented and smart. We have a number of good players on this team who are not playing because someone is better. Team is talented. Our kickoff team sends 11 guys down the field who can play.

Comment s on various players - #14 Saffold, did not think he was that good, (wrong again) Our OLINE next year will not be dropping off. #74 Back up OT Lincoln Howard moves well may take one of the OT spots. #12 Hare not even close to being the best player on team, but maybe MVP. Dline #90, 69 and 56 solid and there maybe an NFLer there, solid. #28 ARCB looked good, but Im a #23 Huff fan. Our OC, really dude get a clue. You can not pi$$ away seris and points because of play calling. You have someone on the ropes out of gas, STEP ON HIM. On the goal line you call three straight passes. BTW – I never complain about play calling it is the single most overrated aspect of the game, but his calling is bad. Next years play calling could be worse with so many dancers, he won't know who to pay. I think he is responsible for inconsistensy on our offense. Canada, Gollady, Glasper,TLL, Saffold and +++ next year at WR is stunning. Looking at our #26 Wedel and #34 Hagan stand together on sideline there is a big difference physically. Wedel towers over Hagen in stature.

You see this team and you get the feeling you are not watching a MAC team.

Proud to be a HUSKIE.

Good post but I can't resist. I agree you get the feeling you are not watching a MAC team. Most of the time I feel like I am watching a div. 3 team.

Ford Field is my absolute favorite place to watch a game. Especially when it's not congested. I'll be sure to make every trip in the future.

I think the whole reason for 3 passes on the goal line was trying to get Brown (a Senior) a TD.

The future looks incredible for this team. Some amazing young talent, and a QB that has really stepped up, and will only get better. The O line will need some reconstruction. There is a lot of experience lost. Brown, Loos and Pitt have will be hard to replace. On Defense we lose very little to graduation; Duarante has been real good as of late; Meehan has had a solid year as has Santa, but each have capable replacements who have seen plenty of palying time. At some point in the year this team was in desparate need of senior leadership, and the kid that really stepped up was Santa. It will be interesting to see which upperclassmen fills that critical role next season.

It will with 3 new starters and 2 more on the 2-deeps, but keep in mind Myers and Ruka both saw plenty of time in the rotation this season and they were on the right side of the line for about half the series in the MACC, so it's not like they'll be completely green.

Myers will move to LT next year and Ruka will remain at RG with Howard beside him at RT. Shane Evans will take Gegner's place as Ness' backup at C and Ron Brown probably becomes Conlon's backup at LG.

Also, for leadership next year, first one that comes to mind is Hare, then guys like Ness, Boomer, TLL, and Logan.

RE: Comments from Detroit
I'm really interested to see how Myers and Conlon mesh together next year. It seems based on opinion here and the fact Myers did get solid reps this year he should be good. I have doubts he's as good as Loos, but Loos had a college career that was one of the best LT in NIU history and that's say something with the lineman that played here.

The left side of the line was dominant this year, especially Friday. With Ness and Conlon coming back, if Myers can be a mover, watch Huff and Bouganon run a lot between the LG and LT spot.
I'm really interested to see the personnel rotation at the slot next year. TLL is a legit star, Ducee has shown he deserves touches, and Beebe is just a crisp player. But Saffold stepped up as well.

Also, I'm not sure if too many people notice, but after the Ohio game, I think NIU ran maybe one or two jet sweeps the last two games. They just beat people up on the inside.

There might be something to that idea. Let's see if we can continue to remember that beatng the holy s*^t out of teams physically is a good thing.

We suffer from a desire to be cute offensively and show off how many different things we can do when grinding other teams souls into dust is what we do best. I'm all for being multiple, but not at the expense of losing our identity offensively.

Myers is supposed to be very good. NIU's had a succession of damn good LT's over the past 15 years:

Ryan Diem
Tony Vincent
Doug Free
Trevor Olson
Tyler Loos

Would not surprise me if Myers joins that list these next 2 years.
