I have a feeling this is what's going to happen. Not sure why they would not put two conference champions against each other that have some history between them. I'm hoping ESPN chimes in on this as well (maybe help out GoDaddy financially for the move, as I don't think ESPN owns the GoDaddy bowl).

Marshall gets to pick the bowl they want to play in, and all indications point at Boca since a good chunk of players come from South Florida. You think the MAC mans up to GoDaddy and sets up the best match-up for their conference?

It's pretty clear to me that outside the top tier of bowls that ESPN is who's really in charge anyway.

Talk on the Score this morning about NIU joining Big 12.

The MAC is in this for the long term and they need to respect their business partners and honor their contractual agreements.

That said there is no reason why a win/win/win cannot be proposed in a season such as this. Matching the MAC and CUSA champs makes a lot of sense for both conferences and for ESPN. The MAC might not and probably does not have the financial resources to put a financial proposal on the table of interest to the GoDaddy Bowl but ESPN does.

I can understand why NIU fans might want a more challenging opponent than Arkansas State. However, the GoDaddy Bowl is a warm weather Bowl that goes all out to welcome both teams and to create the best possible experience within their budgetary constraint. It ain't all bad.

I just read something from HustleBelt, so take it for what it's worth, but they said with UAB losing football they talked of the MAC dropping to FCS for football.

I'd think NIU and Toledo would be gone ASAP if that discussion even came up.

If UC and Memphis go to the B12 then the AAC would be silly to not invite NIU and Toledo.

What MAC schools would like to do and what they can afford to do are two different things. Like it or not, they have not found a way to build their fan base and it is a pervasive problem across all of the member institutions.

If this does not change they might well need to drop to FCS and if that happened there might or might not be an alternate path for NIU. I hope there would be but it would be far from certain.

And that could potentially be the death blow for the MAC in FBS. NIU and Toledo are the only 2 programs with any meaningful national recognition and respect at this point.

You guys think Iowa State funds itself? They ride on the coat tails of the B12 tv revenue sharing fir the most part and pick up other $ when Texas and OK fill their home games. NIU could easily raise has much funds as they do in a p5 conference. Funny how the B12 has a bigger salary standard deviation than the MAC.

Typical carter shaw, doesn't see the whole side of the picture.

NIUs money pool instantly grows by joining the conference. It doesn't matter if they are even the bottom number in the Big 12, they'd still be in the Big 12. That makes the job better than give or take 60 other jobs.

There is so much more than a coaches salary that goes into moving up.

If they don't expand this offseason I bet they apply for a waiver like the MAC did with having an odd number of teams.
