O/T: MAC West and bowl bids
MAC West will do very, very well tomorrow in the bowl game invites (MAC will get 5 bids and 4 will be MAC West teams. Only BSU and EMU sit home):

"Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, Toledo, Western Michigan and Central Michigan should all receive bowl bids to the MAC's automatic tie-ins, which include the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Dec. 20 in Boise), the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl (Dec. 20, Montgomery, Ala.), the Boca Raton Bowl (Dec. 23), the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl (Dec. 24, Nassau) and the GoDaddy Bowl (Jan. 4, Mobile).

The Bowl Pairings Show is set for Sunday afternoon."

Detnews.

I am not a college football fan, so not sure why I am commenting here. But...

7-5 MAC team vs a 7-5 Sun Belt team is not deserving of accolades. In that sense, yes there are too many bowls. But espn is airing them, so people are interested (and that is good for the MAC). In that sense, no there are not too many bowls.

RE: O/T: MAC West and bowl bids
There have been some comments about bowls and whether fans in today's economy can afford them. MSU is hoping for a geographically closer bowl bid because many of its fans according to Lansing sports radio are still paying off their trip to last year's Rose Bowl. I think most EMU fans would go to a bowl if it was in a day's driving distance ie Mobile, Montgomery, Boca.

I had plans to get to Idaho if we got the bowl bid a few years back.

The entire bowl lineup this year seems really, really good (for a change).

Some really nice MAC matchups (NIU vs Marshall) in Boca Raton (this is a very good matchup for G5).

CMU vs. WKU in the Bahamas.

WMU vs. Air Force in Boise. (two good teams).

I'll definitely watch those games!!

Had it on good authority that it would've been Detroit had we become bowl eligible that year.

I thought the one at Boise State the Potato Bowl was a potential for us but I could be wrong. Regardless I was going wherever we were bowling.

Amazing how close we came. Right? Didn't we lose the BSU game at the end and deprived us of a bowl, Detroit, which would have been a real shot in the arm for our program.

Sometimes the difference between success and failure isn't much.

Lost to BSU on a last second field goal. Then lost to Kent State when we blocked a field goal and one of our guys touched it, then KSU jumped on it and scored a TD on the next play. Both were games we should have won. We could've easily been 8-4 that year.

I still can decide which of those losses hurt the most. Probably Kent State for the embarrassment of having to watch our players create such a stupid turnover seconds before halftime.

Also almost beat NIU. Remember the TE (Hoskins?) was wide open late for what would've been an easy TD but he dropped it.

Yep. That would've given us the lead. I remember Harnish had a big run for a TD on the next drive, but who knows what would've happened if we had been winning. It was windy as hell and neither team could get much going offensively.

So many "what ifs" from that season. And all of us would kill to have another season like that. Sigh.

Yep, and all of the 27 YEARS since a bowl game talk would be replaced by talk of 27 (give or take) MONTHS since our last bowl game. 03-idea

Yes, I believe things today might have been far rosier.
