Got to hand it to FSU, they took GT's best shot.
Good luck to GT in the Orange Bowl, good luck to FSU in the Sugar Bowl against Bama.

RE: Open Thread - Championship Week
Tomorrow after I'm done laughing my rear end off when neither tcu or baylor get in the playoff, I will be blaming the situation 100% on the big texsa conference for bowing to bevo and not letting a championship game happen. both baylor and tcu's situation were not helped when the third string qb lit up wisconsin and the buckeye d completely shut down and shut out wisconsin on o. remember that the big texsa wanted an easier path for it's teams (specifically texsa) to get to the bcs championship game, which is why they only took west virginia when louisville AND cincinnati were sitting there to go along too. that would have preserved the big 12 title game.
after sunday I would not be surprised to hear expansion talk to ratchet up to 11 for cincy (definitely) and memphis state (maybe) to join up.
(by the way, let it be known that I have not been a fan of texsa for a long time before our coach decided to go there. none of my insults comes from that incident. )

RE: Open Thread - Championship Week
Random thoughts:
- Paul Johnson put a clinic on Charles Kelly. So much for that alleged advantage.
- GT crowd started the night off as juiced as I've seen them since the GameDay season opener against Notre Dame.
--- UGAg wins are HUGELY therapeutic to this fan base
- GT really missed the linesmen that transferred or were ineligible. Getting tossed around on DL was the game difference.
- The field conditions were worse than they looked ... GT DBs got belly flop turf monstered with nobody near them 5 times. Twice for touchdowns ... two other times for costly first downs on 3rd and long.
- Jameis didn't have to make many big plays ... but when he was forced to make an NFL caliber out route throw to score he did easily. He will be a pretty good pro QB if he cleans up his off the field issues (good luck with THAT)
- FSU fans in my area were pretty appalling. Openly yelling again and again to hit the GT QB every down until he was injured. It was fun to hear them get increasingly pissed at FSU's inability to stop the spread option. I will give FSU a solid #3 though for worst fan bases I've personally experienced, behind #1 UGAg and #2 Miami. Unlike the former two though there were some decent FSU fans ... and the majority of Miami and UGAg fans are just terrible.
- I dunno why the ACC tarped the upper endzones. The stadium that wasn't tarped was easily 98% capacity.
- Good local support. And general CFB fan support. Saw fans of Wake, NCST, Miami, Clemson, Louisville (props for the giant *** bird hat), Cuse, UNC, UVA, and VT. No BC, Pitt, or Duke. Other fans spotted: Bama, BYU, UGAg (lolz), Tennessee.
- Crowd: 50% GT, 30% FSU, 20% local

RE: Open Thread - Championship Week
Congrats to the Noles on the conference crown.
For fun here's the projections on the playoff 4 among 40 ESPN staffers:
Bama: All 40 ballots
Oregon: All 40 ballots
FSU: 39 ballots (KC Joyner, whoever that is, picks 2 Big 12 teams)
Ohio St: 23 ballots
TCU: 12 ballots
Baylor: 6 ballots
The way this worked out the final weekend with no upsets and OSU dominating, one P5 league is going to be throwing out public outrage tomorrow at 12:30 when their team is left home. Being an Ohio resident, it'd be enjoyable to hear the OSU fans crowing about being shut out, but they dropped a home game to a weak 6-6 VT. On the other hand, it'd be fun having two 11-1 Big 12 teams both shut out.

Glad to hear the hate is mutual between GT and Miami. The few (fortunately) Tech fans I've encountered have been quite bad.

I'm hoping it's the Big 12 with their co-champion BS. Either expand for dissolve nobody wants a P5 conference with no title game.

To be honest, that is the approach to take with an option team. You have to punish the QB every time he pitches it so that it gets in his head. Your QB was ran the option near flawlessly in the first half; legally hitting him every time you are able should be the gameplan of every Defense when facing an option team.

The "Danny Ford" plan for dealing with option teams.

I think it will be big 12 teams getting left out. Baylor head to head over TCU but Ohio State over Baylor based on championship game win in convincing fashion and better non conference schedule even though they lost to Virginia Tech at Home

Totally agree with that defensive philosophy on the the option. That's the way we learned it way back when. Hammer the QB on every single pitch. No matter. Eventually he'll spit the bit.

This is amazing. Could be Cincinnati's big shot. Big12 will be forced to expand. If they're left out I'm laughing. All because of their greed. Sooooooooo glad they overlooked Louisville. I'd hate to think about traveling in that conference. What a bunch of idiots.

GT actually went UP in the AP and Coach's rankings. O_o
GT was the biggest rise in the Coach's poll to 9. They went up 2 in the AP poll to 10.

Don't understand the continued love for K-State in the poll rankings. They played three top 25 teams and lost to all three. Arizona played 6 and won 3 of them, Georgia played three and won 2 of them, including common opponent Auburn.
At best, K-State should be 13th.
Cheers,
Neil

I read that FSU kept gt under it's season average 3rd down rate, yards per rush, yards per pay and power rating.
I also read that gt fans booed the injured FSU players (despite obviously running an injury-philic offensive scheme). So if you want to talk "class", go for it.
Nice backhanded compliment of Winston...

Twenty three years of ACC membership, and I think gt's only 2 wins against FSU are from the "old man" Bowden years. Must suck.

some more at cut blocks -- your offense was using them extensively too. Gonna get your Beamer bawwwwwwl on? One FSU player was booed at the end when GT was doing the 2 minute hurry up that scored. It wasn't at all apparent he was limping in the stadium, and he should have gone down the previous play if that was the case. Held under the season average? Congrats -- you're slightly better than NCST or Tulane or UVA? The FSU defense had quite simply no answers what-so-ever. Your "defense" was a miscommunication on a passing route, offensive penalties, and blown blocking assignments. Bravo?

90's FSU wasn't beaten by hardly anybody. O'Leary got close towards the end of his tenure. After expansion they've hardly played. PJ is 2-2 against FSU. You can gripe about old Bowden and I can gripe about how they shouldn't have even been in the title game in 2012. But the results from 2012 and 2014 show you're not at some huge advantage. You won both games by one score or less.
