Just saw this report float across Facebook. Looks like Norfolk State has been downgraded to "Probation" from "Warning" by their accreditation agency. They are now one step away from losing their accreditation - which would kill them. (For proof of that, see Morris Brown College, the "enemy" school from the movie Drumline. The same accreditation agency pulled their support from them in 2002 and the school was basically finished the next day.)

Any of you Virginians have any insight into whether this might happen to Norfolk? (I mainly bring this up since they are another D1 Virginia school.)

Well, Norfolk STATE is, but not the entire city. Ha.

I don't see it getting to that point. NSU is no small school like Morris Brown, and has a decent reputation. I don't know much about their situation, but I saw how their president stated he was surprised because he thought they were on the upswing. This will get pressure from all directions, including the city of Norfolk, and their board will probably take whatever drastic steps are necessary to make sure this gets resolved quickly.

He doesn't mean financially, but literally. Lots of "rising seas" discussions and planning going on right now in Naw-fulk.

ODU and the entire Norfolk community will have to deal with the rising water levels sooner than later. Luckily, we have some smart minds at ODU and we'll help create solutions.

Yeah. Maybe somebody smart there can create a maglift to rise above the water.
