I don't remember GPS devices being too prevalent back in '06 so I assume you didn't have one. There's nothing much worse than not only being lost in an unfamiliar city or state, but to get shat on by the police like you did has to trump that... Did you complain or did you go on about your way after it was all said and done?
i've never had gps. love maps and getting lost and ****. i didn't even know what town i was in. i was excited that the whole ordeal was over with, could care less about complaining. although i was met with an even worse of an unexpected problem once i reached my destination (acadia national park) i was in maine at the peak of tourist season. naive me thought i was the only one who thought the sound of maine sounded cool and unique, something off the beaten path. thank god it rained the entire time. i serviced my car at the car dealer (free oil change) prior to the trip and he told me i had 10% left on my brakes and yer going to maine?! he said. i didn't care for his advice. on the way home i had to detour due to a double fatality on both sides of i-71. it's quite a story but i did eat lobster. check that, clam chowder.
It sounds like you had one helluva time... Do you always drive somewhere just up and outta the blue? I thought about taking my girl up to Maine one Spring or Summer, driving there. It's 1857 miles, 28 hours.

RE: Has anyone ever been abused by the police?
Last week I told a cop the reason I hadn't gotten my registration renewed was because I had 6 months to get them replaced and he said I was wrong (but I didn't want to talk back to avoid further confrontation).

(12-10-2014 10:14 AM)Lush Wrote: never been abused, but certainly hassled and profiled. the only downside of having long hair and a car littered with bumper stickers. for instance; i was on my way to milwaukee from cincinnati via a most northerly route along lake superior. at the border crossing near duluth, the agent (or whatever) insisted that i couldn't possibly have spent only two days (i told him it was more like one day, two nights, since i slept in my car one night) in canada. he asked me what i did, whom i stayed with, what i bought, etc.. i politely answered all of his questions. i waited about two hours while they searched my car. all i could do was smoke cigarettes. people do the great lakes tour all the time. you can spend a day driving along lake superior and be back in the us in less time than i did, it's pretty common.
most of my stories are like that, but one thing stands out, all of them are f*cking mean. i'm always polite.
one more story. back in july of aught six i drove to maine and somewhere passed new hampshire i got lost trying to find a place to sleep (this was about the time i realized the comfort of my car). it was getting around midnight, i had been driving since niagara falls and i found a motel with a vacancy sign. but there wasn't any vacancy. so i said f*ck it and resigned to shuteye in my car. i got a few hours sleep before i get a knock on the window with a flashlight shining in my face. the police tell me that the motel man didn't want me staying in his lot so i said i would leave. he asked me if i'd been drinking, i said no. he said for me not to lie to him. i said ok. i had two beers in vermont around four in the afternoon. it was about three in the morning now. he asked if i wanted to take a breathalyser i said bring it on. we waited a half hour before another trooper showed up with the device. they said i was borderline. i thought what the f*ck? since i wasn't trying to leave or driving at the time, they said for me to wait awhile then i could go. they leave and i couldn't get back to sleep so i walked to a convenient store and bought some smokes and an inedible sandwich. got back to my car and said f*ck it. naturally i was lost in the first place so within minutes a cruiser passes me and i pulled over immediately. about five cars showed up (which i imagine was the entire force) and the dude starts berating me. he noticed a few six packs on the passenger floor which i had boughten in new hampshire earlier and he asked me in a loud voice if i went to that store to buy more beer. took a field sobriety test which they said was "borderline." i probably appeared drunk how nervous i was. they threw the cuffs on me and into the backseat and onto the station where i would be for an hour or so. took the "official" breathalyser and blew a zero. he said that sometimes it doesn't work the first time so i had to do it again. same results. i asked him if he really thought i had boughten that beer at that store and he said that he didn't and observed it the first time.
sorry for the length.
Mistake #1 was putting "Lush" on your drivers license...

RE: Has anyone ever been abused by the police?
I once took out a girl who eventually became a cop.. She wanted to abuse me or molest me, but luckily for both of us, I had the good sense of not drinking that night and asking her kindly to leave my house.

Thank goodness. If you had resisted arrest you would have been shot dead.

See how easy it was to avoid that scenario?

I have been the victim of a corrupt cop, yes.
Physically abused, no.

I've gotten some tickets, and been stopped before...but the police were always professional and damn near polite.
Having ones extortioner smile and be polite while makes them no less abominable. Making criminals of people that are harming no one is nothing to admire.

It all depends on where you grew up. Like I said before, I grew up in a neighborhood where we were taught to fear the police.
