Not since the end of the Boston 3-party era. Although they do have an outstanding young coach that players will go through walls for.

Thank goodness for Michael Jordan, Scotty Pippen and Walter Payton or else I would have nothing but memories like tonight. The Bears are getting killed right now and I that I can think of is how does ECU have such a horrible secondary. Oh but we still have Lebo at ECU.

As a fellow ECU/Cubs/Bears fan I feel your pain.

This was definitely one of the strangest ECU teams/seasons in my 40+ years of following them. I have no idea what to expect in the bowl game, but I don't have a lot of confidence right now.

Im with you....I think a lot of it had to do with the number of non Saturday games down the stretch. It was due to the realignment and fcking ESPN. Hopefully that will settle out from here on.

I dont understand... how can ANYBODY be a fan of the Sox and the Cubs. One is an amazingly historic franchise that has class and dignity and the other is the Sox!

Considering you have seen a Chicago team win a title in every sport (though you're a Cubs fan), I offer no sympathy. And you sweep around having been able to root for the greatest player ever in a sport like its nothing.

Try the heartbreak in Houston on for size. Do you have to be the butt of the same March Madness highlight every year? Do your lone championships get discredited for stuff the team had no control over? Your baseball team has suffered but its not as if the Astros didn't these last 50+ years. Just as much heartbreak AND they lost to a Chicago team. You don't know misery.

Hmmm, you guys complain about getting teased but you have no clue in a sense. People say "Coog'd it," do they have something similar for ECU?

Actually, when I saw the results of that game with ECU, my first thought was 'They Cooged it' but I didn't feel like I had the liberty to utter a derogatory phrase about another team. Hell, last year nobody ever accused us of Temple-ing it, but hell we lost 3 or 4 games like that in 2013.

OK, ECU, what you did in that game was Templed-it. My sincerest sympathies.

Oh boo hoo, for a franchise that has been to what, 25 Finals (a guesstimate because I don't feel like making a quick Google search). Oh the horror, you have to actually do some rebuilding. You've even seen a championship in your lifetime even if you're like 19 or something and that's more than what 16 other NBA franchises in their current city can say (not to mention the Knicks haven't won one since 1973). 17 championships when 16 other current cities haven't even seen one, I offer no sympathies.

Sorry if I sound harsh but like I said, come on you've seen some great teams recently.

I grew up watching the Cubs. Jack Brickhouse, Ernie Banks, Fergie Jenkins and that whole crowd. That is when Harry Carey called White Sox games. In the late 70's my uncle used to get me tickets to the Old Comiskey Park and I became a White Sox fan.

I am not a hockey fan. Btw, the Blackhawks have traditionally been decent, but back in the 80's and 90's they were known for tanking too. So it is only recently that they would have been removed from this list anyway.

In my generation (I'm in my mid-30s), the late Bill Wirtz, who owned the Blackhawks, was very literally the worst owner in all of pro sports. This wasn't just the typical fan base complaints that "The owner s**ks!" that you see everywhere. ESPN actually put together an objective ranking system for all of the owners in pro sports and Bill Wirtz came in dead last. He wouldn't spend money on the team either in free agency or to retain their great draft picks (i.e. Jeremy Roenick, Ed Belfour). He also blacked out every home game on TV because he was so obsessed with ticket sales. Of course, that meant my generation hardly saw any Hawks games on TV and didn't get any exposure to them, which led to the team actually having the worst attendance in the NHL up until the year that Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews were drafted.

When Bill passed away and his son Rocky took over, though, it was a complete sea change. Home games were immediately put onto TV, the organization hired the Scotty Bowman braintrust (who is arguably considered to be the equivalent of Phil Jackson for hockey), and they went all-in on building a team around Kane and Toews. For someone that grew up with watching the Hawks as being the most inept organization anywhere, it has been blinding how much success that they've had over the past 5 years. You can't even get into the United Center for the nosebleed seats for less than $150 now. It's the most unbelievable sports turnaround that I've seen anywhere.

I'm a Preds fan.....big game tonight. Chicago fans travel like crazy to Nashville because they get cheaper tickets.

DA BEARS - DA CUBS - SOX'S of WHITE.

Love going to Soldier field and Wrigley Field when I'm in town on business. If the Cubs are out of town I head to the South Side to watch the White Sox's. Sat in the Billy Goat Bar enjoying a few beverages the night the White Sox's won the World Series. Love Chicago, the Michigan Mile, Ditkas's, the Chop House, Harry Carey's, the Weber Grille, and Heaven of Seven. Lot of other great places to eat there too.

Really thought the BE should have taken ECU years ago for at least FB only. You could have put your other sports in the A-10 until they were picked up by the BE later.

04-cheers

What do Houston sports fans have to complain about? When the NBA suspended Jordan, uh I mean when Jordan retired that first time; the NBA allowed Houston to win a couple titles. Houston Cougar fans have seen NCAA appearances by your basketball team and your school has also produced all time great players in basketball and a Heisman trophy winner in football. Think about it; the Coogs had to be in the NCAA tournament in order to Coog it. A typical ECU senior was only a year old the last time ECU made the NCAA tournament; and this despite the fact that ECU has excellent basketball recruiting grounds.

RE: It is hard being an ECU, Chicago Cubs, White Sox, Bulls and Bears fan
I've seen 1 UH NCAA Tournament appearance and other than the NBA titles the Rockets won while Jordan didn't play full seasons (and thus they didn't "count)," there's been nothing but heartbreak.

Nothing. But.

Even the Astros only World Series appearance came with a major tease off the bat of Albert Pujols before they clinched it. The Astros are 1-5 all-time with a chance to advance to the World Series, not including the 16 inning thriller with the Mets in Game 6 of the 1986 NLCS that was essentially Game 7.

Need I bring up the Oilers and their chokes? 35-3? Then they move away and almost immediately go on a thrilling playoff run and nearly win a Super Bowl.

Remember this thread is about heartbreak, not accomplishments.
