Andre the Giant
Some of his best matches were in Japan, which had a more exciting style than US wrestling back in the day.

This is just 4.5 years before WM3, but you can see Andre is 10x more mobile and athletic in this match.

Andre went downhill fast after 1984 or so.

The Lariat was a big man but looks tiny beside Andre.

yup

Hansen was a huge guy and massively talented.

He was peaking from the late 70's thru most of the 80's, His career really took off after a legendary feud with Bruno Sammartino in '76-'77 during his last run as WWF champ. He was AWA world champ in '85 and '86 but got himself into a power struggle with the Verne Gagne and refused to drop the title on quick notice with several big Japanese dates already billed with him as AWA champ.

Hansen was the most popular foreign wrestler in Japan for a long time. He is an even bigger legend there than here.

He refused to drop the belt back to an aging Bockwinkle that night and then refused to hand over the belt after they stripped him. He made several appearances with the belt, then backed over it with his truck, destroying it. He sent the remains back to the AWA and Gagne.

American promoters were very weary of him after that incident.

RE: Andre the Giant
Hansen even bodyslammed Andre here, but it was a much slimmer Andre than when Hogan did.

He looks nearly 100lbs lighter.

RE: Andre the Giant
Andre in his prime was miles better than Big Show ever was.

There really never has been anything like him in the sport before or since. A massive man who could really move and had quickness, agility and raw brute strength.

Because he was such an awesome sight in the ring, its easy to forget that he was truly a mat technician in the ring. A true, skilled old school wrestler who was as smooth and good in the ring as anyone in the business. He just happened to be the giant of all giants.

And he worked or connected with the crowd better than anyone in the sport. Hulk Hogan basically co-opted his entire in ring persona.
