My Personal feeling about Tiger Basketball
I hope this won't be to long & rambling. I'm 72 yrs old & have been following the TIGERS since about 1969. We first had floor level seats in the old coliseum.Never missed a game. Drove to St. Louis & Tulsa to watch the Tigers.Kept up with them in Delaware & Charleston S.C.when we lived there.Always watched the game delay on WKNO when we couldn't get them on Regular TV.Anyway ,suffice it to say,I've lived & died with Tiger basketball. The coaching changes, ball players coming & going, exciting wins,& heartbreaking losses. The excitement was always there, the couldn't wait feeling for the next game &/or the start of the next season.or waiting to see who the next player we would get.The hoped for development of one of our player such as DJ,or the big time guy that was a disappointment. I was so excited when CJP came on board. Those feelings have slowly faded away. The can't wait for the next game excitement, the anticipation, all of it has just gone away. It just doesn't seem like Tiger Basketball any longer. Maybe it will come back,I hope so,I don't know about CJP. Don't know if he can or cannot coach, motivate players. He does seem to be able to recruit, but If things don't change soon, I fear we're not going to get the players we want & need.I'll wait & see.

Memphis bball has had rough patches in the past. I'm not trying to compare those with the present, but forums and social media I think tend to amplify everything.

Were you excited during the Moe Iba and Tic Price years? We've been down this road before. If Josh is fired then we'll find another coach and we'll recover.

Pastner's teams got no heart... They got no direction... Our flagship program is descending into mediocrity with CJP.

It's not my first train wreck following the Tigers all these years. But they are my Tigers.

No,I wasn't happy with some of the coaches we had in the past, but I was still excited about tiger basketball. Maybe I've gotten old,or maybe I read too much on this board. Some times I think it's better to know nothing at all,& yes,Everything is amplified here.

Every time I turn on ESPN I get a dose of reality about the state of our team. Arkansas and LSU would wipe the floor with us. It's like we don't even play basketball.

Amen. It will take a lot more than a questionable coach and a few head-scratching seasons to make me stop being a fan. That's just part of it. You can't recognize the highs unless you've experienced the lows. Perspective.

Good post OP! I feel the same way. No butterflies before the season or any games. I expect us to lose every game. No sick stomach after losses. CJP has destroyed all excitement. The last years of Larry finch didn't even do this to me. Luckily I was in Iraq fighting a war during the Tic Price years & I came back right when cal was hired so it's like Price never happened....

Social media is normal progression like cable, satellite, streamed games, DVR, ect. Far different from waiting to watch tape-delayed games on Channel 10. I don’t know what it is but I’m not excited anymore either. I thought like you that I’m just getting older and maybe I’ve outgrown sports. Found out last week watching many of the Turkey Week tournaments this wasn’t the case. I had a ball!

Too much drama on Josh’s teams to really have fun. Key players transferring, strange illnesses, suspensions, and someone is always in his dog house, plus IMHO he refuses to adapt during actual games.

I like our players but success starts at the top.

Great points by all, don't even look forward to going to games anymore. I still feel bad I was one of the very wrong fans who tried to convince myself Joe Jackson had alot to do with it. Oh well we'll have a new coach someday.

Tiger basketball is a mess and Josh isnt gonna change it. BTW it was Moe Iba who laid the foundation for r first NCAA run, he recruited Larry Finch and the BIG CAT

Zachman, count me in as well. I too thought that JJ had a lot to do with it. I will admit I was wrong. JJ and crew were the reason we stayed afloat the last 4 years. I am no longer excited about the future under CJP. I will remain a Tiger BBall fan. That can't be taken away. My waiting with aniticipation for a good competitive game or exciting brand of Tiger bball has now been replaced with sitting around waiting for the next excuse or complete 180 in decision making. "We will play fast and press" then get beat and retreat completely. "We will be great defensively and be in great condition" only to be horrible at both. We will take the names off the jerseys only to put them back on, etc. Seems like EVERYONE is CONFUSED. Coaches, players, fans. Hell even the media. All in all, it make one hell of a Sh@# storm. I do hope a change is made, if not just to rejuvenate the fanbase and bring some stability back. If he stays, he must develop an identity or style of play similar to what Coach x did when he brough in the Laurinburg 4. This constant changing from year to year lets me know that CJP only goes with what he is comfortable or familiar with. Develop an identity. When you play the Tigers, you know what you have to face whether it's a high octane offense, a smothering defense or a methodical style of play that forces teams to play your game. I remember when X installed the Dribble Drive developed from the Junior College coach Vance Walberg (sic?) Although rather gimmicky, albeit effective, the dribble drive established and identity. When we went down to destroy Alabama that year, I instantly knew we arrived. Even perennial Top 25 Teams feared the Tigers. Now, I dont know what to expect from year to year except more excuses to come.

RE: My Personal feeling about Tiger Basketball
Someone made a good post the other day. We are in the Billy Gillespie years that Kentucky had but at the same time dealing with the "Larry Porter" of basketball. Minus the fact that CJP wins games, games we should win anyway with the talent that we have. I know you guys out there have CJP recruiting class rankings per year. I would like to say that this year is not as good as some but when you have a top 25 class there should be no rebuilding.
