RE: If GT beats FSU & Ohio St. narrowly wins B1G, does TCU & Baylor both get in?

VT lost six games - 5 were by a touchdown or less (avg loss, 4 points). Only one loss by double digits (Miami FL)
WVU lost five games - two by less than a touchdown, 3 by double digits (Alabama, OKLA, Texas)
Both have one top 6 win (WVU over Baylor, VT over Ohio State)
Wins over teams with winning records (other than teams above)
WVU - 7-5 Maryland
VT - 9-3 Duke, 8-4 Western Michigan
Hard to claim WVU is superior to VT
Listen. I love the MAC schools but a 8-4 MAC school would get beat by WVU and OKST and really how good is Duke?

VT lost to Wake Forest, ECU, GT, Pitt, Miami, and BC. That's 1 ranked team, 4 decent teams, and a really bad team.
WV lost 3/4 games vs top ten opponents, lost to #20 OU, and lost at the end of a long stretch of games at Texas. 4 ranked losses, 1 ranked win, and a decent team on the road. They lost to TCU, Bama, and KSU by 17 points COMBINED. Three top ten teams.
VT faced a very light schedule compared to WV. VT misses a bowl with WV's schedule, WV probably wins 9 or 10 games with VT's. WV played the #10 SOS according to Sagarin, 40 spots ahead of VT.
That is why it isn't even a discussion. One played murderers row of five ranked teams and 4 top tens. One played two ranked teams and lost more games.
As for the wins vs winning record stat- if you think WMU stands a chance against UT or OkState then you are crazy.
Losing against tough teams doesn't make you a good team.
There really isn't evidence to say one team is much better than another.
Losing badly doesn't say much for you but playing 4 top ten teams straight up speaks well of a team. Their losses to three ranked teams were by an average of less than a TD. VT lost to Miami, Wake, and Pitt my an avg of more than ten.
The SOS isn't even close and WV has a better record.
Sagarin has WV at 28 and VT at 50 for a reason. Wv played a schedule 40 spots better.

One thing that is worth considering is that when Ohio state played virginia tech they were mostly healthy. From that point on I beleive they lost their too three running backs and other players. It doesnt make virginia tech a better team at the end, for sure, but it adds an asterisk to how they finished as it pertains to Ohio State's loss.
