Kind of like, don't fight with the police and you won't get shot.

Stop acting like a douche. You deserve to be banned.

How does that taste?

Not to start a snowball fight...

But, 2 of my favorite posters (trust me, they are 2 different people) aren't around anymore because of the ****storm others started in the fire fleck thread. It sucks. The board suffers by not having their insight and wit.

Invite them back and show them the ignore feature. It works great!

RE: You get what you wish for
The way I look at it, the purpose of this board is to discuss football and football related issues. To my way of thinking, that means recruiting, coaching strategies, increasing attendance, assistant coaches and the head coach, in game strategies, scheduling and and whether it's worth going to Ohio State and places like that for a big payout.

Things that seem out of bounds to me, are personal attacks and spreading unfounded rumors about the coaches, and western Michigan personnel. In other words their personal lives are off-limits.

I also think that flaming other posters within limits is okay. Slurs referencing to sex orientation, gender, race and things like that should be strictly off-limits. On the other hand, heated discussions about politics, social policy, and the like are typically appropriate. Lord knows, brovol and I have had our share of public policy disagreements.

in that spirit, I think the moderators are doing a good job, they wouldn't have to be heavy-handed if people wouldn't write such inappropriate and vitrolic nonsense.

Maybe it's just me BC, but my radar has gone up recently when it comes to heavy handed moderating. It always starts out as well meaning, but in the wrong hands it always leads to power crazed moderation. I see it creeping in as we speak.

There are several alternatives. There's nothing proprietary about BroncoStampede. Other sites offer the same and even more in terms of services, etc. Granted, it will happen all over again at some point, as some clown always tries to take control. We've moved boards three times since I've done this, but none the less that's how the free market works.

RE: You get what you wish for
Oh I agree totally about mission drift and the abuse of power. But… It's always hard to draw a line in terms of reasonable management limits and boundaries and over use of limits and boundaries to squash free expression. So far at least for me I've not seen that.

I think it was Thomas Jefferson Who once said "people should not be afraid of the government, the government should be afraid of the people." And so it should be in any balance of power between two or more groups.

Edit: turns out the above quote is from the movie V for Vendetta.

I received negative crap from DB and 83 because I was talking about sweatshirts on the "Apparel" thread with Italian who also received negative reps from them? Also, stating facts in regards to being on the sidelines before the game last Friday...Really? I went from a positive rep to negative rep after those 2 posters decided what they were going to be bullies and gang up on me. Not going to speak for Italian but they sent this poster into the "red" also. Not sure what "neg" rep truly means, but to me it means that I have posted things that are derogatory to the site. That is completely wrong and unfair IMO.

With them, they're just at the point that they don't give a f*** about this site anymore, they're posting somewhere else and just showing up here to cause trouble. They've mentioned their other site a bunch of times since they were banned over the legal thing.

We should start a reality TV series before some producer gets the idea. Lots of melodrama, name calling, fake hatred, etc. The only problem is than I am probably the only one who has the Hollywood movie star good looks required for TV.

RE: You get what you wish for
For what it's worth, I think this topic is valid. I'm not going to cry foul loudly shortly after the Fire Fleck thing, if mods are going to err on the side of caution with anything remotely related to it for a while.

However, it makes me timid to express my opinion on certain things. What if, say, I was hearing rumors IRL about Gary Darnell doing some crazy shinanigans, asking if anyone else heard about it because I couldn't find any news sources (and Darnell isn't 'famous' at all)? You can't ask that in a forum? If I did, I wouldn't post it out of my own caution.

Another thing is to make fun in Response to a crazy post about some rumor about Gary Darnell that was claiming said thing Was true. Can I make fun of it with hypotheticals and expressing that way? Can my only legitimate posts be the ones bashing the concept that said rumor was claimed as true -- and that's it?

These are legit questions on the boundaries of it, and yeah, I will say I FEEL that there's a constrained line to walk in, if allowed at all -- which I can understand Immediately following some legal issues on a Specific issue. I'm never asking dos & donts to be perfect or anything either -- but have questions about being able to freely express one's Opinion on virtually any matter.

Don't be naive. Apples and oranges... 83 knew exactly what he was doing. It was intended to do nothing more than continue to stir the pot.. again.
